I came across this amazing piece of art last night in one of the uber nerdy comic book groups I’m on. It’s a life size replica of Spider-Man crawling from his grave. This piece is based off the cover art of Web of Spider-Man #32 by Mike Zeck. This was part 4 of the iconic Kraven’s Last Hunt storyline which is a must read for any Spidey fan.
This is a truly iconic cover which has spawned statues, collectibles, and other covers paying it homage. It also inspired artist Richard Riley to conjure up a life sized replica which is what I’m here to show you all today.
According to this talented gentleman, the model was initially made from a heavily modified mannequin with the tombstone and mud carved by hand. I would kill to have this bad boy in my collection but it looks as if he did this as a one off for a local comic shop.
Richard...if you are listening...what will it take to snag one of these?!?
What’s your thoughts folks? I absolutely love this and think he nailed it! You can check out some of his other works here: http://rileyreplicas.com/
