At work today the boss asked if I'd like to have the day off tomorrow. At first I stared blankly at him, but quickly followed that up with an enthusiastic "Yes!" I have an 8 hour paid holiday that needed to be taken in the next couple weeks and tomorrow was seemingly a good day to sneak it in... so, score!
Now, I've got a list of things that I want or need to do that's a mile long, so I'll do my best to be productive and use the extra time to its fullest. But, one of the fun "tasks" I want to spend a bit of excess time and energy on is...
reading comics.
Over the past six months or so I've attempted to dive back into reading and collecting comics with a passion I hadn't possessed for a while. As a creator and artist myself, I actually consider it an imperative task to feed that creative engine. Not only do I want to enjoy reading comics, I also study them and try to learn something new from each one.
So far I've done ok on the collecting aspect... but the reading part is slipping further and further behind. The image above is the box wherein I'm organizing my recent purchases to be read. At this point it's up to almost 150 issues.
There's also a pile of trade paperbacks and graphic novels lying around, that 10,000 pages worth of comics I picked up in a recent Humble Bundle, and my subscriptions to Marvel Unlimited and Comixology Unlimited which I barely scrape the surface of... You get the point.
An extra day off is a start, but it looks like I'll need to get snowed in for a few days to make real progress!
Steem is motivational in getting me to read more comics and wanting to share and discuss the results! is cranking out some of the best #comics content around with his weekly buying summaries and in depth analysis of the symbolism and philosophy he discovers as he reads.

edit - Ahh, schnikes! I was trying to think of all the great comics content I’m enjoying off the top of my head and knew there were some glaring omissions. Be sure to follow and read folks like ,
, and anyone else I retroactively sneak into this list in the future!!!
For quite a while I've had an alternate account, , intended to be dedicated to comics reviews. It was dormant for some time but I'd like to begin populating it again. As I read through the pictured "box of backlog", the thoughts I have and reviews I'd like to share will be landing over at that account, so please do give
a follow if you're interested.
Well, I'm off to tackle that box for a little while before bed! Wish me luck in these strange and dangerous worlds! Fellow comic geeks sound off in the comments! Let me know what you're reading and loving. Your suggestion may already be in my box... but if it's not I may just find a way to cram it in. That may sound sexual, but it's not. At least... I don't think it is.
