In 2004, Marvel released a One-Shot comic entitled "Daredevil 2099" #1. Written by Robert Kirkman, of Walking Dead fame, this issue presents a very interesting arc to the Daredevil story in the future. The combination of Karl Moline's and Mike Perkins' drawings with Rick Magyar's ink and Nick Bell's colors provide a dark and detailed landscape to tell this tale of inverted justice. Part of the Marvel Knights 2099 series, this period in the future has sentinels protecting the streets. All of the superheroes are either spending their time behind bars or living off the grid. It was the Mutant Registration Act that led to the current state of affairs, as our once-beloved heroes banded together to fight the government.
The Daredevil that we knew and were familiar with is now dead, as the Kingpin was responsible for this. The stories of the great battles between Daredevil and the Kingpin were passed down to Fisk's grandson by his own son. The grandson feels guilty of all the terror his family inflicted on others that he now fights crime. The kicker is that he does it as Daredevil, using his family's fortune to bankroll his endeavor.
His wife isn't very happy about these late nights he spends fighting crime after working at the family business. Samuel Fisk also has a kid to worry about. Fisk soon finds out that his suspicions of his wife having an affair are true and this is where his Kingpin legacy comes to the surface as he deals with the problem the same way his grandfather would have. This is truly a great way to continue the Daredevil story!
