Gotham City has been unusually quiet. Oracle is still communicating in Batman's ear. Everything is too quiet for this Batman. A couple of guys planning on robbing a Pawn Shop claim to have seen the Batman and turned themselves into the police. They were afraid of the violence that they would be struck with if the Batman intervened. The Ghost-Maker is currently out of town preparing for the takedown of the Clownhunter.
On this particular night, The Billionaires Club is having a big blowout. Bruce Wayne no longer runs with this crowd since he lost everything. However, many of his enemies appear to be in attendance as the theme for the evening is "Villains Of Gotham." Trouble is about to happen because the Mercenaries have arrived to breakup (or save) this lavish event. Peace just has a hard time reaching Gotham City! One thing is for sure; Bruce Wayne isn't used to being cheered!
Still wallowing in his past, the Batman hears the news reports that Batman Inc. has been arrested. This global organization consists of Man-Of-Bats, El Gaucho, Bat-Man Of China, The Dark Ranger and The Hood. Travelling to Badhnisia, Batman runs into Detective Cayha. It appears that Batman Inc. had turned themselves in to the police once the body of the monster Abyss was found. Evidently, those who once were heroes are now killers. But they are still being bankrolled, with Bruce Wayne no longer having the financial power to do it. To Batman's surprise, Batman Inc. became hooked up with Luthor.
This dark story was brilliantly written by Joshua Williamson. Jorge Molina and Mikel Janin bring the story visually into focus. The variant cover artwork that I possess was masterfully done by Viktor Bogdanovic and Alejandro Sanchez. It's a new time in Gotham City and this new day is ready to set off new problems! (And this issue # 118 is just Part One of Four).
