Feeling way behind on this story, I finally had a chance to read the second issue of Post Americana. My first reaction is what took me so fucking long! And yes, this book is for mature readers. Steve Skroce, Dave Stewart and Fonografiks have hit another homerun with this Image release.
When the last issue ended, Mike and Carolyn were captured by a group of cannibals. They find themselves now locked in a crate by this group known as The Followers of the Path. I guess this is how this group stores its fresh meat until feasting time. This sick group of individuals is having an event where they are holding a 50/50 raffle. The prizes include a Jetpack, Kawasaki K-7 Plasma Rifles and a Gillette Nano Porta Freezer with 100 lbs. of fresh meat, and we're not talking from a cow.
Mike is also surprised to find out that Carolyn is missing a portion of her arms and legs. It appears that she was wearing some sort of specialized prosthetics. They must have been removed because they aren't edible. Luckily, she doesn't need to be wearing her limbs for them to be effective.
After being dumped out of the crate, Mike faces off against some Leatherface-looking butcher, until Carolyn's limbs can reattach to her body. Causing an explosion, which is really hard to explain because her arms weren't attached yet, Carolyn urges Mike to get out of town with her. However, Mike's sense of humanity wont let him leave until he frees all of the people that were still locked in cages. Carolyn does provide transportation for Mike to leave, as the other escapees rushed to other vehicles.
While all this action is taking place, someone is watching from afar and is receiving orders to keep following our two heroes. The rear of this book also contained a sneak preview Two Moons, which would continue in that book's debut issue.
