Marvel's Defenders Beyond #1 shows the final spell of the Sorcerer Supreme coming to Adam Brashear to inform him that it his calling to bring together Defenders and for him to lead them. We first saw him in "Adam: Legend Of The Blue Marvel" in 2008. This Korean War veteran and scientist was involved in an accident that turned him into "a living antimatter reactor." He doesn't buy into the spell's request and tarot card readings at first, but I guess if you can understand the multiverse you realize that anything is possible.
Who knows the multiverse better than America Chavez? Besides debuting in "Vengeance" #1 from 2011, we also saw her navigate her way through many realities in the latest Doctor Strange film. According to the film, she lost her family along the way. She won't be very happy when she discovers that she will be working with Lady Loki once again. It would be safe to say that she isn't fond of the trickster. As we have seen in both comics and movies, Loki can take on many forms.
Taaia made her first appearance in last year's "Defenders" #1. She watched the destruction of Taa, her planet, and her son, Galan. Galan did end up resurfacing as Galactus. The fifth member needed for these defenders was Tigra. Tigra has been known to team up with Spider-Man. Knowing what her role is, can Tigra keep the other members in check?
Surprisingly, the last page teases the appearance of The Second Cosmos, one who understands the Multiverse all too well. Al Ewing and Javier Rodriguez spend this entire issue introducing the reader to the new Defenders. The setup is here, so can these chosen protectors work together as a single unit and make the late Doctor Strange proud?
