What do you get when you mix a giant head with super-human intelligence and psionic powers? You get arguably the strangest creation from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby to graphically hit the pages of Marvel. M.O.D.O.K., which stands for "Mental / Mobile / Mechanism Organism Designed Only for Killing," first hit the Marvel pages in Tales Of Suspense #93 - 94 in 1967. I can't help but think that M.O.D.O.K. was the perfect design for a Jack Kirby production because he is basically all head with tiny limbs. I always marveled (no pun intended!) at Kirby's work because I always thought his vision accentuated the "head" on his character portrayals.
M.O.D.O.K.: Head Games #1 was published just in time for 2021. George Tarleton became M.O.D.O.K. as a result of a terrible experiment via the Cosmic Cube, while working for Advance Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.). Written by Jordan Blum and Patton Oswalt, this creature was brought to life by the amazing artwork of Scott Hepburn, with the cover being masterfully conceptualized by Cully Hamner.
Monica Rappaccini, another mad scientist, is working very hard to convince Forson and the board at A.I.M. that M.O.D.O.K. is a distracted mess. War Machine appears to thwart their efforts at hacking the Hovertrain. This is all part of their attempt at stealing Tony Stark's technology. However, it is very possible that M.O.D.O.K. is being held back by these memories that keep entering his massive mind from a life that never existed. His allegiance may be changing because at this issue ends it seems that M.O.D.O.K. may be joining forces with Iron Man. I don't really know much about the history of this strange villain / hero, but I am now on a quest to learn more!
