What do you get when you combine the POTUS with cannibals, traitors, scavengers and genetically modified chickens? You get one of the latest efforts from Image Comics! I didn't mention superheroes because they only appeared on one page as Night Terror and Don. This story, written by Steve Skroce, taught me not to get too close to any of the characters right away because many people died right from the start. This is especially true of Don, who ended up being eaten by chickens, as his plane went down in a vast wasteland. F.F. had me confused as to if he was going to be a good guy or a bad guy as the leader of the scavengers. However, this doesn't seem to matter because Mike took him out while F.F. was battling Carolyn.
Rudy appeared to be an interesting character, for a cannibal that is, until he was mowed down by Carolyn going Rambo on the entire community. Before Mike's arrival, she was slowly knocking off members of this community with the use of "poisoned hooch." I am guessing this President of the United States that was feeding the people a bunch of bullshit at the beginning of the book is going to turn out to be the villain. Besides Mike and the late Don, there appears to be a group of people with the duo that are being referred to as traitors. The POTUS is leading a community of people who are holed up in a hollowed out mountain known as The Bubble. Believing that before something can grow you must till the soil is what gave their mission's name as "Operation: Tilled Soil."
For now, it appears that America's fate is going to be in the hands of Carolyn and Mike. Carolyn does warn Mike that something is more dangerous than chickens out there! Carolyn gives me the impression that she is going to be badass. However, before they can leave the wasteland to get back to The Bubble, they are captured by an entire community of cannibals. Every piece of action is violently portrayed to perfection by Dave Stewart (colors), Steve Skroce (story and art) and Fonografiks (letters and design). Post Americana #1 warns us of a bleak future for America but a bright future for this story! In other words, I feel it was a very great effort for a debut issue. Listed as a December 2020 published date, I am going to have to rush back to Conquest Comics to find the other issues that should have already hit the stores.
