My latest venture into Conquest Comics of Bayville, New Jersey, had me looking at some back issues. One in particular that caught my interest was in the dollar comic bin. To my amazement, it was also in good condition. This item was DC's Batman Detective Comics # 936 from early September of 2016. This Part 3 of the Rise Of The Batmen storyline was written by James Tynion IV. The artwork was done by Alvaro Martinez (Pencils), Raul Fernandez (Inks), Brad Anderson (Colors) and Marilyn Patrizio (Letters). The cover, which is what initially caught my eye, was a joint effort between Alvaro Martinez, Raul Fernandez and Tomeu Morey.
One of the problems with picking up older issues is becoming totally invested in the storyline that you now have to track down the issues that revolve around this one. It appears this may be the case with this issue. Kate Kane is still haunted by her time in the military, especially her dealings with Sergeant Tate. Her confidence was basically beaten down to the lowest of all lows. She is snapped out of a lull by Red Robin's call summoning her to the Belfry. It is here that she finds out that Batman has been beaten by a group known as The Colony, whom appear to have military training.
Donning her Batwoman costume, Kane figures out that she needs all the help she can get, especially seeing how The Colony defeated Batman. One of the heroes that she calls upon is her military veteran father. Orphan is intercepted by the same group that defeated Batman, so she doesn't quite make it in time for the briefing. However, something is very wrong. It seems that her father also doesn't believe the Batman is effective and is working with The Colony. Clayface is used to shield the group while they decide how to handle this situation. Kane's dad still has confidence that his daughter will go back to his side.
