It took 768 issues, but the Hulk finally received his reboot from Marvel Comics. Issues #1 and #2 begin the "Smashtronaut!" story by Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley. The title question is brought up as early as page 4 in issue #1. Bruce Banner is seen trying to rationalize with Betty as to why he is keeping The Hulk suppressed. It is apparent, Banner wishes this gamma accident never happened. He came to this decision after a horrible situation in El Paso. Bruce feels that he needs to take action before The Hulk takes over his entire being.
Dr. Strange is trying to figure out how Bruce Banner was able to turn the Hulk into a Starship, as he assembled more than just the Avengers together. Banner was able to get the tech to pull this off by stealing it from A.I.M. Already dealing with many characters inside him, Bruce was able to split his psyche into three very unique sections. Tony Stark pleads with the Hulk not to try and go through the wormhole because the technology hasn't been tested.
Banner is leading the Hulk through this Portal in Issue #2 because no one will be able to deal with the direction that this hero/monster is heading. Once Hulk enters a forbidden zone for mortals, he is confronted by the Alternate Universe Timeline Hazard Operations Response & Intervention Team. The Engine Room appears to be where the action is as Hulk must deal with monsters and of all things an enlarged Wolverine. All the while this is happening, Banner is at the controls. If this attempt at travelling to another dimension fails, Banner risks the green monster reverting back to human form permanently.
Frank Martin takes us on this journey with spectacular colors. The Three Stages of this multi-dimensional time travel adventure leads the Hulk to meet a very unrecognizable character. Himself!
(or should I say a new human version of him!)
