Today our random wiki character is....Arishem! http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Arishem_(Earth-616)
He's a Celestial, like that head in Guardians that people mine for brain goo.
I originally pulled the Arishem from Earth-9997 (Earth X) Where apparently they "lost all definition" and had to build suits of armor to contain themselves. In the 'ol 616 though they apparently still have bodies.
Some time before the universe they warred with the Watchers (Stan Lee's among them, one supposes) as they were overpopulating the universe by impregnating planets.
So when there was a new universe the solution was to introduce Galactus to eat their babies. So. There you go. Too many deer? No problem, just have a guy where a red spiky helmet and eat all the fauns. Actually, eat all the trees so they have no where to live I guess. Ok it's a bad metaphor, I'm just saying it's a bit over the top.
Then again the Celestials are eugenicists, so hard to muster a lot of sympathy. Typically the Celestials in general putter around, judging lesser beings and razing civilizations. Arishem here apparently caused the great flood for example. Other Celestials go and do experiments on planets, then Arishem shows up and decides who turned out the best and eliminates the rest.
As super beings beyond the ken of gods, of course the good guys beat them up on the regular. Cyclops blew off his hand then later kicked them off the earth for example. Thor cracked open one of their brains. They're pretty much intergalactic Worfs (to head off any ACTUALLYS, in Star Trek Worf is only interstellar).
Arishem's big move seems to be the thumbs down, which, actually, means he's saying we live. Read a book, man! I don't care if you're from beyond time. I guess technically the Romans got it wrong from him and then we messed it up from the Romans but good thing we did or we would have misunderstood his gesture of doom.
So that's Arishem, actually a pretty solid one. Check in next time where I'll randomly get my favorite character, Multiple Man!
