Hello Steemit! Long day ahead tomorrow, catching up on commission work and prepping tattoo designs for Sunday. Also trying to sort out some equipment upgrades for the Illustrated Friends Live Podcast this Saturday evening. So tonight was all about hacking away at PLOTSICK for its debut at FallCon this of October.
But first some warm up sketching. I had so much fun with the Batman & Superman piece that I thought I’d stick with the Justice League theme and sketch a quick AMP for the forthcoming WONDER WOMAN 1984.
I’m a big fan of large fields of black and silhouettes, especiall for stark impact. But being that I don’t know much about the film other than the timeline, I wanted to bring some bright 80s colors into the mix.
This whole piece was done in Procreate, with the text and logo layout done in Photoshop. It’s simple, which was sorta the point, but I’m pretty happy with it. About half an hour from start to finish.
If you are unaware of PLOTSICK, please check my feed for a free 7 page preview. So, I finished up a problematic panel on page 08, getting all the way through the color and on to the letter stage. The look of this portion of the story is really taking form. I like to draw in a lot of different styles, and since it’s my book, why not use all of em? Using different styles of rendering and execution to represent different layers of the narrative is something I really like the idea of.
I also decided I wanted to do some actual paper advertising for the book, since we have already decided to do so for the podcast. I decided to reward myself with some free drawing with a mind to a promotional poster. I’ve been looking at a lot of art by Jock lately, and I really dig the combination of extremely graphic based textures with loose and expressive sketching. The process on this one was interesting, and the step by step will likely wind up in the bonus material of the book. It feels really outside of my comfort zone. Which is probably why it was so much fun!
As always, would love to hear some feedback. Thanks for swinging by!
