This Illustration of DC Comics "Swamp Thing" is a beginning to ending Digital Illustration. However --- the same process I use for traditional media still applies. The figure and background are completed using the same steps I would use for a pencils to ink to color on something like heavy Bristol Paper.
Step 1
pencils here are replaced with a light nearly transparent brush setting (this time I used grey --- but I often use red ... traditionally blue would be used as the extra lines wouldn't show up when the inked version was copied)
Step 2
inks. The digital inking is accomplished with a tablet and pressure-sensitive stylus which mimics AMAZINGLY well natural brush strokes. ... I still hadn't decided If I was going to add his Zombie Girlfriend or not...
Step 3
I had originally intended this as just a standalone figure --- but once I started detailing the pool the creature was emerging from... I decided to add some trees in the background.
Step 4
...which lead to a completed full page black and white illustration.
Step 5
as seen above - with the full color added.
Step 6
...and FINISHED with an era appropriate DC Comics cover design laid over top.
And that concludes this Swamp Thing illustration from 2013. Thank you for your kind attention!
