Pedophilia as Part of LGBT? Not a New Suggestion

I caught wind of people pushing "P" for "Pedosexual" being added to LGBT. Needless to say, this is quite a controversial thing to discuss. I have never seen any LGBT groups accept pedophilia, nor have I met any individuals who supported accepting pedophilia as an orientation rather than an illness. However, the practice of lumping pedophiles and LGBT people together is nothing new.

It is a common claim for anti-LGBT groups that LGBT (a) is connected to pedophilia although little to no evidence suggests that they are connected in a way that suggests an inherent link between the two and/or (2) will eventually become so permissive that it will eventually accept pedophilia. Not only that, the only times I've seen people accept pedophilia (not just people struggling with the illness accepting help) were when certain YouTubers started crawling out of the woodwork, when I encountered (and helped to expose) a pedophile on Tumblr and when a certain Virginian congressional candidate published a rather infamous manifesto.

It is not surprising that 4chan created a similar hoax called "clovergender" which is similar to how someone might call themselves transage. In clovergender, an adult believes that they are a child trapped in an adult body and is attracted to children. Unlike the MOGAI ridiculousness that Hive account@kaliyuga normally writes about, even MOGAI won't touch clovergender due to the nature of what it implies. I do support people who struggle with pedophilic urges taking measures such as avoiding children and taking certain medications that lower one's sex drive, but will always see pedophilia as an illness rather than an orientation.

The pedophilia discussed here isn't the high school senior/high school freshman relationship or an adult relationship with an age gap. It's straight-up adults having sex with young kids. Granted, there are specific age range attractions like hebephilia, which is an attraction to early adolescents in particular and the waters get a little murkier with ephebophilia, which is an attraction to someone who's probably 16-18 years old. However, when it comes to blatant pedophilia, the vast majority of people have the same views on it.

LGBTP, clovergender, and similar 4chan-style hoaxes have all failed to undo the progress that the LGBT movement has made so far. This indicates that the logic behind recognizing pedophilia as an orientation is a part of some convoluted conspiracy theory against LGBT rather than something that would actually hold water. Considering what I was taught at a quite religious school, these actions do not surprise me and will continue to be a part of anti-LGBT rhetoric for years to come.
