It's Sunday and we are having a winter storm here. They have been hounding us for days and days to be prepared for possible power outages and the such.
Stores have been raided and there is not a generator for sale for a thousand miles....LOL.... ok, I have no idea how far and wide that is, but there are none around here.
I got up to a light bit of snow this morning. As always, there are parts of it that are beautiful, if that is all we focus on. 😄 So of course I stepped out the back door in my gown, housecoat and bare feet to take a couple of quick clicks. Not like being 23 degrees deterred me doing that and the fact that I had to stand on ice to do it was a factor. It did cause it to be done rather quickly. It was simply too much trouble to bundle up and put shoes on, so I didn't. Still haven't !
It was only about an inch and a half'ish of snow sitting around at that time.
No longer than I was out there, the snow still melted around my feet. Kind of looks like Sasquatch was on my porch.
To be honest, I don't expect to lose power. I have been in this house almost 5 years and the few times the power has gone down, it has not been for very long. I realize there is always a first time, so if it goes out before I finish this post, you can point and laugh at me later!
Still...since they did so much HYPE about all the power outages that could happen. I tried to do what I could to make sure I was prepared. I had enough food here and the things I was low on were refrigerated items, but I was not about to replenish that in case the power actually did go off for an extended amount of time at any point. No sense in losing more than what is already in there....right?
Also this morning I put a lot of water in the fridge for drinking if needed as I am on a well and if no power.... no water. I know it would not stay cold, but I wasn't going to draw it and then leave it on the kitchen counter... right ? I also ran my bath tub full of water after my shower so if the unthinkable happened, I could still FLUSH !!! LOL.... very important !
This is a pano that my camera program made on my phone and asked me if I wanted. I kept it (for now) but it seemed funny to me. There IS a corner between the two photos it is made from, but each side does not bow in. Interesting paste together I thought.
A couple of years ago my Uncle, who owns the house I rent told me he had a generator for this house if ever needed. He said it would not run the heat or the well, but it would keep my fridge, freezer and a space heater going. Friday though, he called me around lunch time to say that he had tried all morning to get it up and running. It would come on, but would not put out any power. He even tried to buy one, but there was not one to be had. I was not worried about me or my things as I have enough clothes and blankets & etc to keep warm, but his water pipes would really be the concern if there was an extended outage and that little generator was probably not going to help with that.
So while I was going from the back door to the front door taking different photos, I attempted to be creative and took this shot out the front blinds where some of my glass doodads are hanging. I keep forgetting that although it looks clearer to my eyes, that my camera always picks up the screen ! ha ha... ah well.
Coming through, I also took a photo of my bubble light in the kitchen. I'm not putting it up with the Christmas stuff. I love it and I'm leaving it out so I can enjoy it every day. I even bought extra bulbs in case it burns out.
That's right, it has nothing to do with the snow and ice.
This also has nothing to do with the snow storm. I have meant to work on getting photos of this since before Christmas against a solid background, but that never happened. I bought it on Etsy where a woman makes mobiles out of fun kitchen stuff. I love the coppery colored things and it goes well in my kitchen (where it is not hanging in this photo), but I thought it was so neat and happy. She had taken a vintage 1950s / 1960s copper colored jello mold for the top and copper colored cookie cutters and hooked them together with copper colored chain. She had also hung copper colored jingle bells in the center of each cookie cutter. Not only that, she has a small copper colored wind chime attached in the center, which means it would also play happily if hung outside.
I thought I'd include it here, since it seems I did not do it justice with a better photo session. At least with the busy background, the light from the front window made it show up fairly well.
I sipped on my favorite Chocolate Mocha Truffle coffee all morning and did not get hungry till mid afternoon. I decided to cook the bacon I had to make sure if the worst happened, it would not be one of the casualties.....LOL.... any excuse to cook bacon... am I right? It was very yummy with some warm scrambled eggs. I am full and content right now. I knew you would want to see, so I took this photo for you.
Since I took the above snowy photos this morning, it stopped snowing and started sleeting and has been sleeting for hours on end now. If you compare to my first photos, you can see that it is at least twice as deep and this second layer is all ice ! The ice part may be thicker than the first snow layer.
I know I've wound on and on now, especially for having nothing amazing to say. I've been trying to do a blog for several days, but nothing would step forward. Now it has been a week since my last post ! It does not seem like that long to me, but the evidence says it has been. Once I started getting photos and downloading, looking to make a post, one sister emailed and we have been having fun going back and forth and another sister text and I needed updates on her and her family who have covid and of course I had to go back and forth with some kindred spirits who love vintage aluminum trees that have a page on FB (you know who I mean) ha ha Of course too, there has been a fair amount of going to the windows and looking out.
It has literally taken over half a day to get here and get this far with it.
Such a gray photo out my front door. The patches of grass still showing are where some stumps were pulled up in the late fall and my neighbor had extra grass seed that he donated. It must be winter grass of some kind, because when the rest of the old grass turned brown, all these patches stayed green and kept growing !
SO !!! There it is, I finally did it !
Hope you are all doing well and that your hearts are happy.
