Faith in STEEM Restored!
And I'm not talking about that STEEM ๐
The past twenty hours have been absolutely BONKER!
Because of that STEEM ๐
The support for my friend's crisis is beyond words of which I can describe. When I posted it last night, I was completely uncertain if I was doing the right thing. I was doubtful I was using the right means to help his situation. I woke up this morning to a post filled with votes from community leaders and steemit influencers. I told my friend to check the post and he even showed his GF.
The craziness just continued throughout the day! Halfway through the day, I started to see votes from steemit companies and whales I never even heard of before. Soon after even two of the largest steemit enemies came together to support a good cause. ENEMIES. COMING TOGETHER. This is surreal. Absolutely unfathomable. Seriously. I love you all.
But The Madness Only Began!
The post seems to be getting closer to making a significant dent in the fundraising... probably two to three times as much as currently donated. STEEMIT RULES! He checked back in with me and told me what happened when he showed her mother the post:
To Everyone That Has Supported, THANK YOU!
I plan on taking a visit to DC on my next day off (Sunday) and I hope to keep you all updated on the two injured's situation, any feedback given by the friends and family, and also updates on how the payments to the charity are going.
Updates Thus far: @
I have a huge thank you to for helping me in the logistics of this fundraiser. My buddy has never started a fundraiser and I have never tried to incorporate one into steemit. I was speechless. Lost. and Dumbfounded when I started realizing the scope of the success the fundraiser gained. I also started feeling a bit daunted by the logistics of liquidating the post rewards and donating to the charity. Due to the large payout, things like withdrawal limits and finding OTC methods of converting started to raise concerns. Thankfully, he has offered his assistance. He has offered to provide a 200 SBD advance so that I can start the process early and get the help my friends need sooner. Thanks to his graciousness, I will be able to provide you with proof of payments, ideally, before post-payout.
Moreover, Jonny has been kind enough to advise me and my friend on how to vamp up the GFM Page, make it look more authentic and attractive for donors. We hope to have the GFM Page edited soon to include the following update:
The drunk driver was a 24-year-old female, in a rented Nissan Rogue. This was her 3rd accident of the night, most likely fleeing from the scene of the first two. Unfortunately, because she rented her vehicle from Enterprise, the first two accidents have already exceeded the amount paid back, and our lawyers are reporting that her bank accounts have already been drained. My girlfriend has car insurance, but no health insurance. She is currently recovering from a traumatic brain injury, requiring a speech therapist, mobility specialist, and an occupational therapist to visit her house. Beyond that, she must travel to see a Neurologist and is trying to also keep up with her lawyers. The passenger of her vehicle has the same doctors, minus the mobility specialist. He has health care. The money is going to them, but theyโve already dedicated portions of whatever comes their way toward paying their family back for the support. My girlfriendโs mother hasnโt worked since April 13th, neither have I. 24/7 home care is feasible while she is still a fall risk, but it costs a lot more than meets the eye to everyone around. Her family now has 1 car, and a LOT more appointments to make. Not only is my girlfriend in particular unable to comprehend how to even take care of herself right now, the bills are already piling up, and even if the lawyers may be able to restore some of what the immediate victims had before... their lives will never be the same.
