Germplasm are living genetic resources such as seeds or tissues that are maintained for the purpose of animal and plant breeding, preservation and other research uses.These resources may take the form of seed collection,seed banks,trees growing in nurseries or gene banks, germplasm collection can range from collection of wild species to elite domesticated breeding line that have undergone extensive human selection.
Germplasm collection is important for the maintenance of biological diversity and food security.
There are very few areas of natural forests and wood lands that could be described as prestine woodlands or forests.Due to their degraded nature and high pressure to provide other important forest products natural forests and woodlands play a minor role in the provision of industrial round wood.
EXSITU conservation involves seed gene banks ,feild gene bank.
