It was easy to see this coming and even easier to predict what the press would make of it. If you look at news feeds today it is almost entirely smear pieces on the President with very little good being said about it.
The first thing I saw in one of the news feeds I look at is how the media seems to be focusing on one particular point in the evening and that was where Trump snubbed Pelosi for a handshake at the end. I don't know what to think of that or even if it was true because he also didn't shake Pence's hand.
I think that if he had shook her hand the media would have been analyzing his handshake as they have done many times before.
There was also the "tearing up of the speech" that Pelosi did immediately following the SOTU speech and well, that was pretty petty don't you think?
On one side of the spectrum we have some very juvenile behavior on both their parts, but in the end Trump could actually end up looking better in this situation since he didn't shake anyone's hands. While there is some grey area about whether or not Trump snubbed Pelosi with the lack of handshake, it is undeniable the disrespect that she is exhibiting when she tears up a speech on national television. Who ends up looking bad in this? I don't think it is Trump and perhaps that is why the wheels of bias are spinning at the major networks.
This isn't the first time she has behaved this way as in a past SOTU, she was similarly condescending.
On the other side, I actually kind of appreciate the lack of pretense here. We are all very aware of the fact that these two people really really really don't like one another and it has always disturbed me when we have a couple of politicians that say the most awful things about the other person, but then play nice when they are face to face for the cameras.
I say go ahead and get the gloves off, let's tear up all the speeches and perhaps get security involved.
The reaction of the crowd was just as not surprising as we would expect because everyone with a (R) next to their name were on their feet more often then not, and the people with a (D) next to their name sat down with scowls on their faces for pretty much the entire time.
I didn't watch all of it, because it was long and quite frankly, you don't learn anything from this stuff and mainly I think people are just looking for more reasons to be upset. I'm sure my Facebook feed will be filled with analysis and either whining or cheering depending on that person's particular political affiliation.
It's gonna be an exciting and/or annoying year as things get more and more heated as we approach November. Hopefully people can chill the hell out after that. I wouldn't bet on it though.
