I remember walking home from the subway in Bushwick, and seeing in the distance flashing lights, a woman crying and being consoled, and an area of the street being taped off by officers. But the most revealing thing I witnessed while sitting on my stoop observing from a distance, were people from all over the neighborhood, attracted like moths to a flame.
In my mind, the scene meant nothing good, nothing that I wanted to see up close, but to the average sheep it was an event to behold, something worth pausing their TV shows for, putting slippers on, and in some cases running down the street to see up close.
I doubt this crowd would be at the same spot if there were a man there proposing to his girlfriend, or if a woman was screaming that she won 50 million in the NY State lottery. The average person doesnt quite get it up for those things.
We are hardwired to pay more attention to dangerous and "negative" situations
Mass Media News and Pop Culture are based and stupid by design
While politics and economics are very important issues, lets be honest; their complexity and intricacy are not going to allow them to be comprehended by 95% of the population. The average person does not have the education, time or desire to do the work of fact checking and digging into alternative news sources. These people take mainstream news on faith. So repetition always wins.
The truth of matters is often complicated, and when mass media by nature caters to the most common intelligence, which is the lowest acceptable, then how the fuck am I supposed to take it seriously? They are not talking to me, and thus, I feel insulted when I hear it. It actually infuriates me.
The most popular food chain in the world serves items that are mostly not real food. The most popular drink in America is far from the healthiest. The most popular shows are the most vapid and nonsensical. Popular music is not synonym for quality music. Anything that is fashionable today is laughed at in pictures 10 years from now.
It is obvious that the things that are popular are virtually always the least in quality or importance. So what does "Common Sense" even mean anymore? Am I supposed to value it?
Common people, or "The Herd", are highly motivated by fear; not reason
And it ruins their health!
Is it really worth it?
Many of the above symptoms and more go unnoticed in todays world. They are often attributed to the wrong things. We live in highly imagined times, ingesting more contrived realities than ever, where we are too often taken from the moment and circumstances at hand, and plunged into an ill imagination of fantasy or foreign bullshit that poses no threat to us. Transgenderism "issues", Nazis, terrorists, Mexicans, racists, Feminists, and even football and The Walking Dead are always triggering our ill trained impulses to danger, and thus, our biology.
And just imagine the level of psychoses and neuroses it causes most of us, paying so much attention to foreign, fake, twisted and inflated issues that pose virtually no real danger in our day to day lives.
The fear response is no joke. Everything from the "butterflies feeling" to high anxiety is a form of the fear response kicking in. It releases chemicals into the body that get you ready for action, but guess what... in this day and age we dont take action. We are often just sitting in a chair and allowing these chemical reactions to work against our own bodies and psyches.
Ever hear the term "Scared Shitless"? Well its real. Fear fucks with your digestion. And beyond the inability to take a proper dump, just imagine how we are failing to properly obtain the best from the food we eat.
Mass Media and Pop Culture promote baseness and fear in order to control us
As with any herding mechanism, the key motivator is fear. They have you fearing that you are not in the know, and need to know for your own well being, and in the case of Pop Culture, it is more of a need to be included, preying on your insecurity as well. But as I stated earlier, isnt everything that is popular today, laughed at or regretted tomorrow?
“We look for the Secret - the Philosopher's Stone, the Elixir of the Wise, Supreme Enlightenment, 'God' or whatever...and all the time it is carrying us about...It is the human nervous system itself.” Robert Anton WilsonI'd say its about time we started taking care of what we feed our Nervous System
Its pretty easy to ignore and forget about isnt it? Unlike the food we eat, there are no nutritional facts on mass media. Those are kept occult. We all have to become a little more psychologically adept in order to create media diets that suit the needs of our Mind Body and Spirit.
Are you willing to do the work of learning? I suggest some basic psychology and The Trvium, as it will teach you how to become a walking bullshit detector and truth seeker.
Our inner harmonies have been hijacked by mostly fantasy, manipulations and outright lies
We have, especially since the advent of network television, been fed a diet of bullshit that has over the last 50 years or so, changed us for the worse. We are to the point today that we ingest more foreign and ingeniously contrived images of reality than we do true reality. Our bodies primed for battle, yet there is rarely battle, and so we suffer many adverse afflictions unbeknownst.
And while we are there screaming about what we are told is news, this precious passion and energy is pointed to matters we have no chance of changing, and not only is this true because the "news" we get is often far removed from the objective truth, but because what the fuck can we change until we master ourselves, taking interest in our personal constitutions and communities first?
I saw a post on Facebook where a girl in Kansas was outraged, admitting to crying, and ready to protest because of a propaganda article about some town in China where people are eating dogs. But here is the thing. She is obese. I think she has bigger issues; pardon the pun. No one is eating the dogs in her town. She will likely never experience it.
Its easy for us to express our anger and contempt for foreign evils, because there is no danger in it. We get the full rush and satisfaction of slashing with the sword of justice. And then, we are emotionally spent, with little to nothing left for the things that count, in the here and now.
Mass media "news" and Pop Culture keep us talking and gossiping about foreign evils and what we may even perceive as some great people, meanwhile, we are empty, and unable to exact any change in our own communities. We gave it all away. We have let decades of fear programming make us cowards, afraid to stand up to our own bullshit and the bullshit of those near us, because getting in the way of these issues may cause real danger. We may actually get hurt.
And who wants to deal with reality when they can "safely" spend their anger on the TV or their news feeds right?
It may be dark in there, but its about time we all started reading some Jung. I cant think of a better mind to help us develop the courage to delve into the dark aspects of our own nature, and find power in them. I think the fear and ignorance of self is the main ingredient to the power of social engineers, and how they prey on our fear.
Lets dive in!
With love,
Doc
