A company called Three Square Market is offering to implant microchips into their employees. But oh, don't worry, it's only on volunteers...and it's free! What a deal! They expect around 50 people to volunteer for this, saying it is the next step in tech evolution after smart phones. The big difference as I see it is that you can turn off your phone (though even this does not assure privacy) or simply leave it behind. But short of cutting out the microchip, well.... Call me cynical, but I just don't trust the assurances that this chip has no GPS tracking. And the really concerning part of this whole initiative is:
“Eventually, this technology will become standardized, allowing you to use this as your passport, public transit, all purchasing opportunities, etc.”
Sounds like the endgame is implants for all. And why not? No need to worry about the government exploiting and abusing this technology. It's not like they have shown they can't be trusted by, say, collecting meta-data on every single American who uses a cellphone, right?
I for one have drawn a line in the sand. My company adopted a new fingerprint system for clocking in and out. They said it was mandatory, that they could not make any exceptions. Suffice it to say, I am now the ONLY employee out of 60+ that does NOT have a fingerprint requirement to clock in or out. DO NOT GET BULLIED INTO THIS BRAVE NEW WORLD.
