A new document making the rounds online sheds more light on the intelligence failures that led to 9/11. According to the Florida Bulldog, the document is "a sworn declaration by Donald Canestraro, an investigator for the Office of Military Commissions, part of the Department of Defense's Military Commissions Defense Organization. It is dated July 20, 2021." While the document doesn't reveal anything that anyone familiar with the subject would find shocking, it does support the theory that the CIA's relationship with Saudi interests compromised national security, making the terrorist attack possible. Here's a quote from the Bulldog article:
It is nevertheless remarkable for its accounts supporting the veracity of long public, yet highly disturbing allegations that top CIA officials, including Director George Tenet, intentionally withheld vital intelligence from the FBI that might have prevented the Sept. 11, 2001 al Qaeda attacks on New York and Washington. Specifically, that known operatives and future hijackers Nawaf al Hazmi and Khalid al Mihdhar had entered the U.S. in Los Angeles shortly after attending an al Qaeda summit meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in early January 2000. The new accounts, mostly obtained during interviews in 2016 and 2018, flesh out that narrative. They also support the ominous theory, never fully explored by either the 9/11 Commission or Congress, that the CIA kept silent because it was secretly working hand in glove with its Saudi Arabian counterpart to recruit Hazmi and Mihdhar as informants. ... CS-23 told me that the CIA used their liaison relationship with the Saudi intelligence services to conduct an operation on U.S. soil. CS-23 told me that the Saudis were used as a go between as the CIA is forbidden by law to conduct intelligence operations within the U.S." The CIA "has used its relationship with allied intelligence services to conduct operations inside the United States in the past," the declaration says.
The overall thrust of this account seems plausible. The Saudis were bizarrely given special treatment in the wake of 9/11. The Bin Laden family was even evacuated from the country under FBI protection. Since the attacks, evidence that Saudi Arabia helped fund the attacks has been trickling out despite the intelligence community's best efforts to cover it up. One example of this is video documenting Hamzi and Mihdhar's association with Saudi intelligence operative Omar al-Bayoumi, which was from 2000 but surfaced only recently.
The idea that the CIA was using Saudi intelligence to conduct spying operations on US soil is perfectly in line with how the CIA seems to operate. And immediately following 9/11, it did seem like the CIA was exercising vastly more influence over the FBI. Since then, the FBI appears to have become more and more a pawn of the national security state. As a law enforcement organization, they're still the best in the business. But as an intelligence organization, their perspective supports only the war machine and the political forces beneath it.
Multifaceted Propaganda Campaign
In my opinion, the rigged 2000 US elections were the beginning of a neocon coup, and 9/11 marked the completion of this coup. This doesn't mean I think the US government was behind 9/11, but I do believe that there was a faction within our government that knew the attacks were going to happen and then allowed them to happen while taking full advantage of the situation. When the neocon base became overrun with populists following the bank bailouts, the neoliberals took over, eventually using the pandemic in much the same way as neocons used 9/11, as an excuse to further limit our individual freedoms and to transfer public funds to private interests.
Since 2015, the US intelligence community as a whole has been engaging in a multifaceted propaganda campaign to convince people that Russia is the devil. They lied about leaked DNC emails, calling the leak a Russian hack. They lied about Hunter Biden's laptop, calling it Russian disinformation. They lied about the Nord Stream 2 pipeline bombings, initially blaming Russia for attacks that were probably carried out by the US.
It's notable that this anti-Russia narrative initially took shape in part to counter growing populist sentiments in the Democratic Party, and was then used against Trump's populist supporters by helping Biden win the most recent election. It's almost as if the powers that be deliberately used the specter of a military enemy to distract the masses from troubling political and economic realities. It probably wasn't a coincidence that this propaganda campaign kicked into high gear right around the time people were realizing that the whole covid response was a giant disaster based purely on lies.
Most Americans accepted the official story about 9/11 and supported the wars that followed. I'm not sure most Americans these days believe the new propaganda to the same extent. This sets up a situation that I'm not sure we've seen before. Either the propaganda will have to get more convincing or the powers that be will have to begin exercising their control over our population more directly. My guess is that we'll see both things happen.
