The magnetic field protects the Earth from harmful solar radiation. But in recent times, scientists have expressed a growing concern over the fact that not only has Earth’s magnetic field weakened, 15% in the last 160 years alone, but it’s now accelerating.
Professor John Tarduno, a geophysicist measuring the magnetic field and its effects on the South Atlantic Anomaly, stated in an April 2017 Radio New Zealand interview (link below), that in some places in the South Atlantic Anomaly the polarity of the magnetic field has not only decreased but the measurements coincide to those seen in a full geomagnetic field reversal.
The problem with a geomagnetic field reversal is that in some models, it may well leave our planet without any magnetic field for thousands of years, making life on our planet inhabitable for humans.
