How to draw braids!
First things first, I'll show you a little trick I've learned a few years ago in making really gorgeous braids ♥ The contest is found at the end of the post n_n
Step 1:
Start off by deciding on how you want your braid to look like. Draw an outline of the braid. For this tutorial, I chose the simplest one.
Step 2:
Add a little zigzag in the middle. The size of zigzag will determine the size of your hair locks.
Step 3:
Connect one point/corner of the zigzag to the outline made in the first step with a nice long curve.
Step 4:
Know how the hair in each lock goes. I've drawn tiny arrows to make it easier to visualize how to draw my braid. Once you've decided which part goes in what way, add a bit of hair strands.
Step 5 Shading! ♥
This is where things get fun! Shade the parts near the zigzag and just below each hair lock (as shown by the red lines above) by going through it over and over again on the same direction. Take note of the direction of your strokes! Be sure to go the same way with the tiny arrows.
Repeat the shading on each hair lock until you reach the end of the hair ♥
A little bonus:
Add a few light strokes just beside the braid to suggest loose hairs. A perfectly neat braid is nearly impossible, right?
