Have you ever driven home from work and when you arrive....you think....I wasn't driving, my brain was! I was thinking about a million other things, and it drove me home!
Your mind can be your most powerful ally, or your absolute worst enemy. With over 1000 clients in practice, I have seen examples that I can't even begin to explain! It is essential that you understand how to tap into the positive aspects of your brain, and shut down or recognize the negative aspects as fast as possible.
Our brains are operating on genetics and heredity from hundreds of thousands of years ago. It really doesn't know the difference between you fighting off a saber tooth tiger or an angry confrontation. Your brain reacts to signals it reads and its main mission is survival. A reaction based on survival is not always the correct action so it is critical that we work to control and temper some of our brains knee jerk reactions.
What I try to do is wait 60 seconds before I react to things out of instinct. I try and think about the other persons perspective and where they are coming from, and then I react. After doing this for a while, you actually train your brain to behave this way.
Another great way to get more control of your brain is through meditation. Meditate twice a day and quiet your mind.
A brain that is stressed and chaotic is not going to do you any favors. A brain that is calm and focused will pay you handsome dividends.
