Back in the days when I was an artist making fine art (as opposed to now where I make not-so-fine art), I made a series of pictures called, The world without cars. Now I suddenly live in that world.
My youngest daughter and I cycled into the old city to accompany my wife home. I have never seen Copenhagen Inner city so empty. Nørregade, Fiolstræde, Frue Plads - not an eye! But not a car either.
This is Nørregade (Northern Street) in the direction towards Old and New Square, a narrow street in the old middle age city centre. A place that is normally crowded with people... There were people on bikes and a few cars but I succeed in getting this empty street photo.
Frue Plads, literally Lady Square, but meaning the Square of (our) Lady, because of the cathedral that can be seen to the right. To the left is the old university building from 1836.
All three images taken from the same spot. So this is Nørregade as it runs towards Nørreport (Northern Gate).
It is wonderful to be without cars. I am all for a car free city and this just convince me even more. I do look forward to seeing all the people return though.
biking home through Fiolstræde.
