The Corpse Flower is on bloom watch at the Huntington Library & Gardens. Once it blooms it will earn its name.

I visited the Huntington today despite the temperature being in the 90's and the conservatory where the corpse flower is a MUGGY rainforest nursery. There is a lot of excitement and anticipation for the big stink. The last time a corpse flower bloomed at the Huntington was FOUR years ago. I took my friend, , curious to see a flower that looked like it came from a different planet and smelled like death.
Here. You can look at corpse flowers!

The strange and unusual flower did not disappoint in looks but had not yet began to smell. It's huge, it's gorgeous and utterly strange. Once it blooms, it will open in putrid beauty in the muggy greenhouse for only a day or two before closing. If you've never visited the Huntington, it's the perfect time to go. Get a membership. You will fall in love. It's a a rare place that is full of happy and tranquility....from the different gardens, art, and the people working and volunteering there.
I'm watching the Huntington's twitter updates and R is excited to return with me to see it open. Maybe tomorrow? I hope to take a bloom photo with R standing next it.
Check back for a bloom update.
