Sometimes we wonder what some people try to gain when they influence good decisions? You couldn’t help but wonder if they have a conscience clear enough to sleep at night. What do they stand to gain, you wonder.
Some people have nothing to protect. They have no conscience, no, they do, but they just ignore it because I know most people know what is right or wrong, they just don’t bother sometimes. Let me cut the chase and go straight to the point.
We had a football match in a recognized stadium here in my city. We have been training all this while and to celebrate the fathers’ day, we decided to play an All-Star team here in my city. They were huge and bulky, hahaha, but we were slim and average. They could pass as our fathers.
We started the match quite brightly and we ripped them apart from start to finish, in the first half. I could hear their whispers and murmurs. They even fought with each other because they didn’t know we were that good. They were stunned. Little did we know what they were planning. They used the same format they always use in our local games; (you can never win an away match).
We started the second half and we noticed the referee started blowing against us. I was particularly confused. Every time we touch the ball and dispossess an opponent, they blow against us. They frustrated us.
I clearly touched the ball and cleared it and this referee gave a penalty. A clear foul at the edge of the box, he gave another penalty. They cut our lead from 2-0 and led us 2-3. It was frustrating. It was a deliberate attempt by this referee.
He made us play extra twenty minutes for the second half so that the All Stars FC that we played can catch up with us with his irregular fouls. It weakened us but we kept fighting.
The moment he noticed they were ahead by three goals, he came to me and some others at the back and whispered to us. He said: “Don’t worry, I won’t let them win also. It will be a draw. Try and get into their box”. I was furious. This only points to the fact that he knew what he was doing. It was a deliberate attempt. He was trying to save his face because he knew it was glaring to everyone watching us. He tried to salvage a draw for us with that statement. He wants us to draw by crook but we didn’t.
He noticed we were not trying to do that, he blew the final whistle and ran off the pitch. If I was the referee, trust me, I would never sleep well that night. I wonder how he could live with that act of corruption and wickedness. I can’t understand how someone could do that, seriously.
The question is the same, the answer is forever variable: what does he stand to gain? Why do people act this way and still feel okay with it? If I was on the team that won in such a dubious way, I don’t think I would be comfortable relishing such win.
We are different. Humans are different. We make our choices based on what we feel is right, but we should always make our judgment based on clear conscience. We all have our definition of “right” based on what we are used to or what we have been exposed to, but we should always listen to our conscience. The more we keep ignoring our conscience, the more we grow dead to hear it and this is how some people develop a cold heart. They have mastered the art of being dead to the voice of their conscience.
If you can live with it without feeling guilty and sad, fine, get on with it, but never ignore the voice of your conscience. I was really unhappy yesterday but it happens and I am moving on.
Thank you for your time.
