HELLO STEEMIT
The month of August is slowly drifting away and the dreaded month of September is just around the corner. As usual, parents are getting the jitters and quiet but animated discussion are going on in many households on how the school fee are going to be paid and what items and luxuries will have to be forgone in order to allow this to happen.
A fellow I know is even doubly worried because the big sallah is due to be celebrated also in the first week of September and he is expected to purchase a ram to celebrate the occasion or else (according to him) my family will disown me. this is because he has not been able to perform this religious obligation over the last two year's since the recession hit and much as he tried to explain to his family that "go-no-go" it seems their patience is running thin.
It is the duty of all thinking people to call out hate speeches for what they are and condemn them in all totality. I am sure that the number of people who want Nigeria to remain as one indivisible nation far outweigh those that think otherwise and unless, and until we all band together and call out all those trying to cause chaos and anarchy we might have to live with its unpleasant consequences.
The Americans are currently doing the same in their country seeing the dangerous way their acclaimed God's own country seems to be drifting. They are cautioning their president that he needs to do a re-think on his public pronouncements on matters of race and religion. There is no sitting on the fence in this case people. You are either on the side of peace and progress in this country or you are on the side of chaos and anarchy. This is because there is no ambiguity in hate speeches. It cannot be explained away neither can what it preaches be excused.
It behooves on all that deplore hate speeches to also speak out. When you come across it on social media do not ignore it. Get into the thread and condemn it. Even if you agree With the opinion of the writer, the moment his argument delves into realm of hate. Then speak out and condemn that aspect. I believe that the more we speak out, then this dangerous trend will not get any traction. Unfortunately, it is quite worrisome the silence from political elite on this matter.
Arguments and opinions can be canvassed and expressed without calling for the death and destruction of your fellow Nigerian. Anarchy and chaos, when they begin to unravel do not discriminate. They affect all equally, no matter which side of the divide you belong. We must emulate the Americans who are applying pressure where pressure needs to be applied and they are not relenting. They are on the streets demonstrating that evil cannot triumph over good, they are on the social media getting their views across and drowning out the voices of ugliness and they have put so much pressure on president Trump that he has had to make a change in his government.
So My Dear People, We Have An Opportunity Here To Stand On The Right Side Of History. Let Us Seize It And Do The Right Thing.
STOP THE HATE AND SPEAK OUT AGAINST IT...
