The well known summer festival in Wolverhampton has been deemed '' commercially viable '' for the second year in a row .
From its humble beginnings as a free Country & Western musical festival in Hickman Park , Bilston it soon grew too big and moved to the nearby bigger East Park . The popular free event mushroomed with 11,000 visitors in 2012 .
The local council in their austerity wisdom decided to milk this by making excessive charges in a predominantly poor part of city . Consequently the numbers dwindled and our wise council votes to cancel the festival at its popular location and move it to be part of other events at the City's premier West Park.
This was a flop as even less visitors turned up.
The powers to be have dessimated the festival by moving it around to three different sites since they came up with the austerity charges .
Why is it the poor who have to suffer the most when our elected council officials make citywide decisions ?
What exactly did it cost our council to host a popular event ?
These charges could easily have been absorbed , as it was an ambassador to our city.
I do hope the organisers and the local community can bring this Free festival back soon .
