I saw one of the cashiers at a supermarket that I frequent standing back from her station with her (work mandated) mask pulled down; she was flushed and faning herself. I asked her if she was okay, she replied that she was going through menopause and that sometimes her mask left her breathless. I asked her if the store allowed her any alternatives like a face shield and she said no. I asked her if she wore the same mask all day and she said yes that she washes it at night and wears it fresh the next day.
I told her she shouldn't be wearing the same mask for more than 2 to 3 hours at the most because otherwise in the warm moist environment of the mask right in front of her nose and mouth, bacteria would be growing and could be infectious to her. So I said get at least three masks to take to work everyday and change them regularly. I said you may be more vulnerable because you're going through menopause but I don't know.
Her response was, "Why don't they tell us these things?" I said, "Because they don't care about us." " I know that," she said.
Now I do know and so do you. She is more vulnerable. And her employer by forcing her to wear a mask or lose her job is liable if any harm comes to her because of it. And I hope she and others that the masks will harm understand and will take legal action, preferably a class action.
But any action they take will not repair the damage that is being done now. That is the tragedy of masks.
