I've been following Kevin Flaherty's news and commentary on Cryptogon for many years. I don't always agree with the perspectives posted on the site, but I do take them seriously. The other day, Flaherty posted an Epoch Times piece titled, 'FBI, State Department Miss Deadline to Produce COVID Origin Information to House Panel.' The headline tells the story, but the commentary got me thinking. Flaherty said:
I consider the Wuhan lab leak revelations to be a limited hangout at this point. The goal is to prevent a wide understanding that the whole thing was premeditated.
The idea that the pandemic was intentionally created seems preposterous. But it's not more preposterous than the media's latest attempt to draw attention from the lab leak theory by blaming the pandemic on wet market raccoon dogs. Everything I've seen up until this point points to the lab leak theory being infinitely more plausible than the natural origin theory. What if Flaherty is right and the lab leak really was deliberately orchestrated?
Lock Step
A limited hangout is where an entity admits to doing something wrong in order to cover up a greater wrong that they want to keep secret. If the lab leak theory is a limited hangout, and the greater wrong is a premeditated pandemic, that would constitute a crime against humanity on an epic scale. Although I very much doubt that the pandemic was premeditated, it was clearly anticipated as early as 2010, when the Rockefeller Foundation and Global Business Network published 'Scenarios for the Future of Technology and International development.'
This document envisioned a scenario called Lock Step, which involved a global pandemic and an authoritarian response to this by governments around the world. Here's a quote from that scenario narrative:
"During the pandemic, national leaders around the world flexed their authority and imposed airtight rules and restrictions, from the mandatory wearing of face masks to body-temperature checks at the entries to communal spaces like train stations and supermarkets. Even after the pandemic faded, this more authoritarian control and oversight of citizens and their activities stuck and even intensified. In order to protect themselves from the spread of increasingly global problems — from pandemics and transnational terrorism to environmental crises and rising poverty — leaders around the world took a firmer grip on power."
There are major differences between the Lock Step scenario and the covid pandemic, yet the similarities are striking. If key figures in government and the scientific community were exposed to this and similar material, it's not out of the realm of possibility that some of them might have found the prospect of using a pandemic to increase their authority attractive. My personal opinion is that many such figures seized the opportunity to grab more power when covid escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. But these same figures could theoretically have engineered the virus' release, or even directed the engineering of the virus itself through various funding mechanisms and communication channels.
What If?
If evidence of this were ever to come to light, there would probably be an attempt by global leaders to blame just a few mid-level players while shielding all of the top people from accountability. That's what usually happens when a major conspiracy is uncovered, but I'm not sure the public would accept it in this case. In the US alone, the virus killed over a million people, and pandemic policies began contributing to an additional 100k deaths a year. These numbers are staggering.
So far, not one leader has been held accountable for forcing us to accept the policies that destroyed large swaths of the economy and led to the massive increase in deaths of despair. On their own, these things would seem to be legitimate grounds for a revolution, though we've mostly remained docile as the extent of this damage has been slowly revealed. I'm not sure we could remain so peaceful in the face of news that the pandemic was a planned affair. I'm not sure there wouldn't be violent reprisals.
All of this provides strong motivation for pandemic planners to keep their role in things secret at any cost. Even if ten thousand people participated in pandemic planning, they would all have strong motivation to both stay quiet and to keep each other quiet. This could explain the absence of smoking gun evidence about pandemic premeditation. And stuff like Fauci's manipulation of science to manipulate the media definitely suggests a larger covid conspiracy in some form.
Even though the possibility of a premeditated pandemic seems remote, it's not inconceivable. And there is already a segment of the conspiracy community who believes that the whole thing was planned. I've seen them in Facebook and Telegram groups, referring to covid as 'the bioweapon' and the pandemic as the 'plandemic.' I generally disagree with their interpretation of the publicly available evidence, but admit that they might not be wrong. And if they turn out to be right, that could destabilize society in ways we can't yet conceive of.
