One of my homestead projects is using up all the things we have
- Wearing out the clothes and shoes.
- Using up the things in the cupboards
- Finishing the half done projects
- Creating something with all the supplies especially craft supplies
This weekend was a finishing off weekend, I’ve had this top half sewn since...February? And I’ve had the beads for this necklace since forever.
I had a stint as a beaded jeweller, a ‘stringer’, about 10 years ago and I collected some cute pieces that never sold. I also have a load of not so desirable pieces too.
I also have a decent fabric stash, some with plans and others just because or leftovers from other projects. Making clothes is high on my homestead, self sufficiency list, so I think I’ll invest in some classic patterns and practice.
In using up the cupboard supplies I decided that the treacle needed a job and made some ANZAC biscuits.
And if I’m not doing anything else I’ve started knitting a blanket, I have three garter stitch, three stocking stitch and I’ve started on six diagonal squares - three of each stitch.
Though in starting a project to use up supplies I’ve noticed that somehow I can seem to end up with more than when I started. With my knitting, I now want to knit everything! A jumper, socks, beanies. So I have more wool now than when I started. I had two and a half 100g balls before. Now I have seven squares, 1 ball of 100g and 3 bags of about 400g! Oops!
Maybe it would be easier if I just enjoyed one crafting activity, but I’m a multi passionate sort of person, I have two businesses, I did a degree in two years and worked full time. There’s something motivating for me in procrasting by doing something useful somewhere else.
