A new idea from Paul Ridley . Cabinz project, Saltney Uk
360mm Woven Polypropylene Tubing (1000m roll) can be bought for £310,
so price is 30p a mtr
Empty used plastic bottles , preferably 2 ltr type are filled with water , air or polystyrene chippings and inserted into the tube (exact position to be determined )
Perhaps with tops poking out the top through the pp tube weave so they can be filled with water on site . Lids being replaced & poss glued on .
Bottles could be fastened in place with stitching or cable ties
The tube should be a bark / green moss colour to blend in with tree.
The tube is wrapped around tree or lamp post / telegraph pole / along brick wall etc to the desired thickness of protection, then ends fastened in place with bolts / cable ties .
For more impact absorption, more layers can be wrapped around the tree.
Additional plastic tubes can be installed in the PP tube for extra water resistance.
To allow for the trees growth in a widening trunk, allowances & adjustments need to be made periodically
This idea has not been tested or prototyped as yet. The inventor has no funding. It is perhaps more suitable to developing nations more open to re-use than the Uk .
Below is an AA uk report on the subject of tree collisions by vehicles
'Killer' Trees Collisions with trees account for 1 in 12 road deaths
