When our children were small we would take them to Schoharie County New York in October for the pumpkins for pies and jack-o-lanterns. We would also stop at a place called the Carrot Barn for carrot cookies. We decided to go today and got a pumpkin for pie (one called a cheese pumpkin) and the cookies.
In the same area there was a hiking trail that we wanted to check out. It was on a small hill called Vrooman’s Nose (I might do a separate post as to why) that we had wanted to see for a long time.
The trail was steeper than I was used to and rougher with tree roots poking through the floor of the trail. After getting maybe a third of the way we decided to turn around.
As we were leaving Schoharie, we took a different way home that took us past a reservoir for NYC. It has a state park on the shore which also has some trails. Although they weren’t as steep and rough. The reservoir also has a hydroelectric generating facility on the opposite shore.
The leaves are changing in the mountains. Even overcast it was a scenic drive. It was nice to get to that county and keep some traditions alive. We are hoping we’ll have a little more stamina when we return to hike the “Nose”.
