"Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success." ā Henry Ford
Hive is not simply a blockchain - it is a decision, a mindset and a like minded community that shares in the growth of such.
THE WHAT, WHY, WHO & WHERE OF IT ALL
These are my five...
WHAT
(What Hive offers you as an individual)
At first, Hive offered me a place where I could learn a little bit more about blockchain technology and also learning how cryptocurrencies work without immediately having to invest money. As my interests grew, I started to learn how to freewrite and in a way Hive brought back my love for writing content instead of just focusing on photo and video formats.
But now, Hive offers way more than that. Hive offers a community. A community where you can be yourself, you are accepted for who you are and where you can meet anyone from anywhere in the world with similar interest to the ones you have. How Social Media platforms originally are intended to work.
WHY
(How Hive is different to other social media and blogging platforms)
First and foremost. Hive is not a social media or blogging platform that is owned or backed by a multinational/conglomerate or a group of billionaires deciding the direction of the platform. Secondly, due to the blockchain infrastructure, you can access the content from different decentralized apps and the same content will show up on all of the them. Third, there are no unnecessary notifications and no-one is pushing you to connect with others because you have one connection in common, rather you decide who you want to follow yourself. Fourth, the community aspect of Hive makes it easy to connect you with a tribe of people that share a common interest, whether that is topic based or location based.
I feel like I'm forgetting something. Oh, yes. Hive has creator and curation rewards that allow users of the platform to not only get rewarded for the content they make, but also for staying engaged. Both the decentralized ownership of the Hive ecosystem and the direct reward system are two things that are in some ways 'ahead of their time' compared to other traditional platforms.
WHO
(People & spaces you find Hive support and gain enthusiasm from)
There are a lot of people that I'm thankful for on this platform. First and foremost, for introducing me to this world way back in 2017 and believing in me to follow through. Fausto never took any credit for being the cornerstone of creating awareness about Hive in Suriname, but my journey was started by him.
Secondly, if it wasn't for and the
, I would have been long gone from here. Back in the early days, there wasn't that much help for newbees on how to get started. If you didn't get directly invited to a community, you could really feel lost. I remember
's initiatives being of help and
helping out as well, but me being a noob with discord, I often felt lost. Freewriting not only helped me get my interest for writing back, it also introduced me to people that I still converse with on Hive 3 years later. One of those cool people being
, who is by far one of the coolest people on #hive, so If you don't follow her... well, it's your loss. I you are ever stuck, visit
for the daily freewrite prompt, just take 5 minutes of your day to write what's on your mind and see where the waves take you.
Then there is , who many view as one of the faces of the community. His #Seven77 was of the first campaigns that got hundreds of people collectively promoting the community which now of course has been rebranded to #hive5. His impact for me has been lasting. It inspired me to join
's #2020vision which together with
's support really helped me grow. Thanks to Nathan I also learned about
's goals and ambitions, which led me to now post daily on
.
Of course, those daily postings are also a result of 's work in this community. Both he and
are two people I really admire when it comes to building for the community.
There are so many people I will forget to mention, but there are also people who have been on the blockchain for so long but I only recently get acquainted with, like and
, who not only supported my crazy ideas, but made them into actual sustainable Hive projects. And last but definitely not least,
and the PowerHouseCreatives, who are real committed powerhouses, and put this wonderful initiative together.
WHERE
(The front ends / dapps of your choice and why)
To be honest, I haven't given any dapp a fair shot. Since I switched to Hive, I've been on all the way. I'm so used to the interface by now that I don't want anything else. I will be trying the mobile dapps
and
in the near future, because I do miss the mobile experience, but so far I'm hooked on
.
And of course, when it comes to video, it's .
#THRIVEONHIVE
(My final thoughts & conclusion)
I've been reading up on the 's posts this weekend and do agree Hive needs work to be scalable and be used as a mainstream platform to millions of users. There are several discussions that we need to have, not just among the developers and the core witnesses, but also with creators who view the Hive ecosystem a lot different. I also feel most users don't have any idea how much work it takes to have the back end running so smoothly as it has done since the hard fork. There are different stakeholders, from developers to investors, creators, curators and consumers. We should have common ground for all groups, especially in a decentralized environment which will get even more fragmented as the userbase grows.
That being said. In the 41 moons I've been here, the maturity has been outstanding. Of course I have grown together with Hive as well, but the opportunities, the communities, the dapps, everything is in a much better place than it was a couple of years ago. I'm proud to be part of the Hive community and even more proud to promote it.
MY SHOUTOUTS
To continue with this fun HIVE initiative, I am going to combine #ThriveOnHive with #Hive5 and the #HiveChat and inviting the next five #hivechat hosts to give us their opinion about what we should do and what we should do.
