Hello, everyone! Today I will be continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me keep track of the songs I have used so I dont end up repeating them. The last song I talked about in my last post is: La Última Lagrima from the iconic band Memphis La Blusera.
Illusions: Cypress Hill
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Illusion from the legendary hip-hop band Cypress Hill.
Cypress Hill is my all-time favorite group in a genre I love, hip-hop. And I'm not just saying that; the truth is that their songs are on another level, and for me, that's largely due to the instrumentals created by DJ Muggs, which perfectly accompany the great voices of B-Real and Sen Dogg.
The story of how I got into this isn't new, and I think I've told it several times in other posts, so there's not much mystery to it. In general, it all comes from the same place, which was when I started getting more into hip-hop after watching Straight Outta Compton, which tells the story of N.W.A. Before that, the genre wasn't something I listened to often, beyond the odd song I knew by name or had heard once or twice, most likely thanks to the influence of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
After watching the documentary, I was curious to start looking for more music of that style. I started with the most common, listening to songs by N.W.A., Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eric B & Rakim, 2PAc, The Notorious BIG, and finally one of the most legendary groups in rap history: Cypress Hill.
Cypress Hill is a hip-hop group from the United States formed in the late 1980s. It was made up of members with Latin roots and others of African descent, such as lead vocalist B-Real, second rapper Sen Dog, and DJ Muggs.
Their first album was released in 1991 and was titled after the band's name. It was moderately successful and managed to garner a good fan base, although the real breakthrough would take at least another two years to arrive with Black Sunday. This album featured several hits such as Insane In The Brain, I Wanna Get High, When The Shit Goes Down, and Hits From The Bong.
The song I have selected for today's post was released in 1996 for the album Cypress Hill III: Temples of Boom, which was a huge success. It featured Illusions and also one of my favorite songs by the group: No Rest For The Wicked (diss track to Ice Cube).
