My entry to ’s contest ‘That wood has character’. Check Here for more information on the contest.
This old weathered tree stump as stood in the woods behind the house for years. I pass it every time I take a walk through that part of the forest.
This is a photo I took a couple years ago. What I thought was interesting is this part of the stump has markings on the wood that look like a mythological tree nymph with flowing hair. She seems to be looking out carefully with one eye showing.
Wood is certainly amazing with all the markings and shapes coming through. Not only does wood have character but it looks like there are characters in the wood. Sometimes the markings are in the shape of the mischievous elves and legendary wood nymphs. Often a little face can be deciphered if you look close enough.
This is the natural back board on the deck step with fancy swirls in the wood. A beautiful butterfly happened to be resting on the top of the step.
