As I was browsing on YouTube while I was eating dinner, I stumbled across a video that showed police arresting an 18-year-old young man after they caught him having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl. I know. Right? Ten years ago they were both watching Bugs Bunny cartoons, and the cops treated the young man as though he were a serial child rapist. Below is the video of this same incident.
Police Waste Their Time Closing In On A Young Man For Teenage Sex While Other More Serious Crimes Are Going On
Part of me questions whether this police interview was scripted, because in the thumbnail to the video, they show both the 18-year-old male suspect and a girl who is supposed to be 14 years old. Normally the underage girl's face is either blacked out or blurred out in videos like these. Then again, let's assume that it is all real.
I could argue that I don't understand why all these self-righteous do-gooders and self-proclaimed child advocates will put Corey Feldman high up on a pedestal for his so-called crusade against "Hollywood pedophiles" when fact has it that he was intimately involved with Drew Barrymore back when she was 14 years old and he was 18 years old. Somehow every other 18-year-old man gets treated like a lascivious sex criminal for a small age-gap relationship like that, but Mr. Feldman gets a free pass.
I could point out that if the 18-year-old man in the video above had been caught with a 14-year-old girl over in Canada, the police wouldn't have been able to do anything because of the Romeo-and-Juliet provisions in the sex laws there. In Canada, the boy has to be at least five years older than the 14-year-old girl before the authorities can intervene in a case of consensual sex. I mention about Canada, because this same young man brought up the topic of Lake Michigan, which borders states that are near Canada.
I could take my response to this story in a thousand different directions, and I could even direct you to online publications that explain how ludicrous American statutory-rape laws are. Please don't read the comments section to the above video if you can't stomach it. All the self-proclaimed child advocates, self-appointed psychiatrists, wood-chipper enthusiasts, and the likes are having a love fest in it.
You see? The men-hating femi-Nazis in the comments section to the above video all agree that a 14-year-old girl cannot consent to sexual intercourse, not even with an 18-year-old man. They proudly call this young man a creep and all sorts of other hateful names. Of course, if their own 15-year-old son were to get a 13-year-old girl pregnant, all that rhetoric about post-pubertal childhood innocence would go flying straight out the window; and they'd be slut-shaming the girl left and right.
Instead of diving into all the specifics as for why this same 18-year-old man should not be treated like a criminal and that he, if anyone, would deserve to be acquitted on jury nullification if this matter were to proceed to trial, I'm going to direct all of you to some good, sound advice. Norman Michael Achin gives that advice in his video below, and I'm sure he knows that a number of 18-year-old men watch his videos for such advice.
Norman Michael Achin Warns His Viewers Not To Trust The Police
The 18-year-old suspect in the preceding video above could have saved himself a lifetime of regret if he had simply lawyered up once the police began asking him questions. Perhaps he would have had to spend the night in jail, but he probably would have been released on bail the next day; and his criminal defense lawyer would have found a way to get his criminal case thrown out on a technicality.
The sad reality is that this young man's life is over as he knows it, and he doesn't look like a bad person. I wouldn't even doubt that this 14-year-old girl he made love to was his first time ever having sexual intercourse with anyone. Of course, the cops aren't going to care, and the court system is not going to look out for his best interests or his rights.
When a young man is only 18 years old, he doesn't always know what the best thing is to do in a situation of this nature. In fact, usually he doesn't know how to handle the police at all. Therefore, I'm not going to bash him for making the wrong decisions after the police moved in on him.
I did find a few reasonable posts in the comments section to the preceding video above. A YouTuber who goes by the user name of @Emjay2683 posted:
if it was the day before his 18th birthday it would have been legal, so what makes the 18th birthday some special event that makes a person a predator all of a sudden? There are adults who have 20+ year age gaps between them. It’s crazy to suggest that the brain of an 18 year old is vastly different than a 14 year old when science says otherwise. Plus, many states have Romeo and Juliet laws which wouldn’t even make this illegal. He’s not being a predator. He’s being a horny teenager.
My exact thoughts, YouTuber @Emjay2683. These cops were looking for every way to demonize this young man in court, and they were using their usual dirty cop tactics to pump him for as much incriminating information as they could get out of him.
Ladies and gentlemen? Our tax money pays these police officers' salaries. We have the right to object to their activities if we feel that they are not serving the public interest. We can do so by either writing to our elected officials to get the laws changed pertaining to teenage sex or being sure to vote not guilty on a jury if we feel that a defendant is not getting a fair shake in a frivolous and malicious statutory-rape trial in the event that any of us get summoned for jury duty.
There is a whole host of actions that we can take to put a stop to these witch hunts that police officers are pursuing by virtue of ludicrous sex laws that are really only meant to feed the prison-industrial complex rather than make our streets safer than they are. Doing nothing about it will achieve nothing.
If the 18-year-old man in the preceding video above were to go to criminal court for his involvement with the 14-year-old girl and he chose a jury trial, there would likely be a load of screaming in the jury deliberation room over what his fate should be from that point on. Let's hope that he doesn't choose a bench trial, because judges get brownie points for handing down convictions for these kinds of offenses as though they've gone out of style. Those same brownie points lead to pay raises.
If you're a man 18 years of age and you find yourself in a similar situation with a teenage girl who is below the statutory age of consent, don't volunteer any information to the police. Even before they read you your Miranda rights, you have the right to remain silent. The Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees you that right.
