Akoin
Akon launches Akoin. This cryptocurrency is being promoted by Akon. Unknown is the level of technical involvement Akon has in this process but the goal in my opinion is noble.
Cryptocurrency in Africa
Crypto has been growing in popularity in Africa as a whole for a while but certain countries are more quick to adopt it than others. Senegal is where Akon claims to have grown up according to Wikipedia but Wikipedia also says he was born in the United States. The idea to build a futuristic city around crypto is interesting but hopefully Akon knows there is more to crypto than currency. The blockchain goes far beyond cryptocurrency and Steemit is a good example of these possibilities.
As far as I know this is one of the first public initiatives involving cryptocurrency and Senegal. If anyone happens to know more about other initiatives in Africa or in Senegal let me know.
