Happy Monday for all my followers and new Steemians who joined us today.
In recent days, I read an article from a renowned Colombian newspaper talking about a kind of “utopia”, a dream that apparently is being built for all crypto-billionaires and enthusiasts who want to live in a world where everything is based on blockchain and our beloved cryptocurrencies.
I know it’s a topic that some of you have written before but nowadays it’s paying our attention – again – so I will talk to you about this “paradise” today and after that you’ll get your own conclusions.
Where the idea comes from…
Well, according to the readings I’ve made, a small group of people who made a fortune “overnight” with Bitcoin and altcoins have decided to invest these profits in what could be considered “an utopic land”. For them to take that decision, an essential factor was the fuel for creating this paradise: avoid paying taxes from Cryptocurrencies profits.
Ok, the governments always want to get a piece of that delicious cake because they know cryptoworld is very profitable, so they create an excuse (paying taxes) for them to make richer. The reason for building this land comes from a report issued by The New York Times.
Where crypto-billionaires come from
These people are coming in crowds from California (USA) because this state is hunting their profits through taxes payments, so they’ve been selling their properties in CA and coming to live in the chosen land --> Puerto Rico.
Why Puerto Rico?
For a simple reason: a tax policy that is not influenced by USA, in spite of being this a State belonging to that country.
Besides their beaches, culture and beautiful people, there’s no any profit collection policy for those people who earn lots of money thanks to cryptocurrencies. This factor gives some peace of mind to these billionaires as they will be able to keep growing their fortune.
That’s why they’ve started purchasing some buildings, houses and lands where some airports and hotels can be built.
An opportunity in the middle of a tragedy
Puerto Rico Island was chosen for one more factor who made it attractive for investors: Hurricane Maria, a natural disaster occurred in Sept, 2017. That was the perfect reason for billionaires to go to that island, considering the opportunity to “save this land from disgrace caused by Hurricane Maria”.
The men behind utopic land
Source
Have you ever heard about Brock Pierce?
Until today, I haven’t.
Well, this is the head of this movement. This man, who directs Bitcoin Foundation and owner of $8,2 million dollars in EOS, says their intentions are clear by helping Puerto Rico raise from the ashes of a disaster and a huge external debt.
Other characters in this particular alliance are Bryan Larkin – Chief Technology Officer in Blockchain Industries – and Reeve Collins – owner of BlockV.
Their fortunes, obtained from crypto earnings, will be the ones that are going to change Puerto Rico’s situation.
The prime purpose of Sol
Sol, the new crypto-utopia, has 2 important goals that have become in the foundation of this idea:
- Using cryptocurrencies as THE ONLY PAYMENT METHOD
- Using Blockchain as a tool for smart contracts that will be used in all the economic activities of this land.
What I think about this idea
I agree with the vision of these people because I’m also sure that Blockchain has been created to change the whole world – we’ve seen lots of successful cases where this technology has contributed to promote transparency in transactions and smart contracts – and cryptocurrencies are the best example of how decentralization can overthrow the interests of central banks and their owners.
