I'm bullish on ETH because of the "sticky-ness" created by the utility of the platform and the fact that smart contracts (once implemented) require participants to still be involved through the end of their contract. Just like people keep going back to Facebook (once enough of their photos, friends, and data are stored there), I believe that the Ethereum platform will have a certain amount of business stickiness, because people's data, money, contracts, and transactions will live there. For this reason I believe it will become more valuable than Bitcoin. Bitcoin has the advantage of being first to market with mass adoption as a store of value, but if people found a better store of value they could (in theory) dump their BTC for something else. But once people exploit the possibilities of the Solidity platform and have contracts, this "stickiness" prevents (or slows down) a mass sell-off event to run to a new platform. For these reasons I believe that it will be a better long term investment than BTC.
I do expect a higher amount of volitility in ETH over the next 3-7 years, as many 'experiments' in DAOs and Smart Contracts are explored. Just like the .com Boom and subsequent bust showed that there are a lot of dumb ideas and a few really awesome ones, I believe we will see a similar number of Solidity Startups boom and bust. Those that remain after will change the world in a similar way to how companies like Expedia.com changed travel, or how Amazon changed retail, or how Youtube, Netflix and Hulu changed media distribution, and how Facebook changed the speed of information sharing.
ETH to the Moon!
