MediBloc. Healthcare information platform
What is the blockchain?
It is one of the fashionable words in recent times because it poses a huge revolution not only in the economy but in all kinds of fields. A huge book where records are linked and encrypted to protect the privacy of information.
The blockchain has been gaining popularity among professionals of new technologies since its appearance in 2008 due to its security and the decentralized way it works. The application of a tool such as the blockchain is as wide as its characteristics, a more common application (and that we can already see implemented) is the use of this in cryptography.
Over the years, we have seen the need to include this incredible technology in areas other than the economy, such as in the health sector. A sector where there is an urgent need to register, save and recover medical data that are essential for any event and that most of the time are ignored and discarded because they are stored manually through the use of files
The medical data registry
Today in the large and small institutions there is still the manual filing system and in some other institutions the electronic system for the registration of data of some patient, however all present many deficiencies.
Disadvantages of manual files.
Manual files have many disadvantages, among the most common are:
- Occupied space.
- Affectation of stored documents for a long time.
- Lost time.
- Lost documents.
- Environmental hazard
- Information is not available in case of an emergency.
In view of the disadvantages of these files, there are health centers where the patient's records are stored digitally, however this alternative also has a disadvantage since the information is only available to the same health center.
And here I expose my case:
The Venezuelan Institute of Social Security (IVSS) is a public institution of Venezuela dedicated to the protection of Social Security of all its beneficiary workers. Its primary mission is to take care of maternity care, old age, survival, illness, accidents, disability, death, rest and unemployment or forced unemployment.
When I was pregnant with my second child I had the need to resort to the health center (IVSS) for my maternity care, to take control of my gestation period and in this way to obtain the corresponding rest (prenatal and postnatal) . In each of the check-ups I had to present the different exams requested by the attending physician for that date and these were stored in a folder called "patient's medical history". In the last month of my check-up, when in this case the doctor requested my medical record in the health center's files, it did not appear, they looked for it everywhere but never appeared. All my information had been lost which unleashed a series of problems for me in the last month of pregnancy. I had to manage and undergo all the required medical exams which led to a loss of time and discomfort due to my pregnancy status.
The blockchain in the health information system
Personal health records could be coded and stored in the block chain with a private key that would only allow access to certain people. Just like personal records, surgeries receipts could also be stored in the blockchain and automatically sent by a smart contract to insurance providers as proof of delivery. The use of the blockchain in the health field could be for the general administration of health care, such as the supervision of prescription drugs, compliance with regulations, the monitoring of test results and the management of health supplies.
What is MediBloc?
MediBloc was born out of a need. Blockchain technology is the perfect solution for the problems that currently affect medical records systems. The MediBloc team has decided to build its own chain of blocks because that will allow them to take full advantage of the power of blockchain without being limited to what existing networks offer. MediBloc is based on the new and important Blockchain system. This is used in the economy of cryptocurrencies to secure assets almost completely.
The interesting thing about MediBloc and its cryptocurrency is the use of this new system that seeks to ensure medical records. All this with the same effectiveness offered by blockchain technology. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities and borders to personalized medical attention. MediBloc wants to grant ownership of medical records to its users and not to hospitals or health entities who pay for reading, researching or copying these same documents to patients.
Now, with the use of MediBloc all this will be different, no patient will live the bitter experience that I lived. With this new system, medical records will be available when the patient needs it and from any health center where he or she is. There will be no possibility of the information being lost and the patient will have the full right to personally handle his medical record without having to depend on a hospital.
What is MED and how is it used?
MED is the new cryptocurrency with which MediBloc users can pay doctors every time the records of these are updated with new data, or even sell information about different diseases to researchers without adhering to laws that prohibit it because the records Doctors will be the exclusive property of the patients to do with what they need.
Advantages of MediBloc
The decentralized health information system redistributes the sovereignty of health information to each individual. Patients, health care providers and researchers will benefit through MediBloc.
