Upon realizing that Steem is driving cryptocurrency adoption by what is probably at least an order of magnitude more than any other platform in the history of cryptodom, I am pleased to announce that I am taking it on myself to share and spread the wealth of knowledge I have acquired over these last 5 years that I have been an enthusiast of this paradigm shifting and world changing technology, commonly known as magic internet money.
Every Friday, starting with today, I will be making a post like this to provide place of learning and safe haven where you all can find knowledge and new understanding! Over the course of the weekend I will be answering any and all questions that other members of this wonderful community haven't beat me to, as well as supplementing any answers already posted by members of the community, in the event that I believe they could be more detailed. I sincerely hope that all every participant (as well as the otherwise silent readers) come away from here with some piece of knowledge they did not possess prior to this activity.
During the summer, some weekends (including as this one, actually), I may be away at one festival or another. On those weekends (as such events are typically weekend affairs), my answers maybe delayed until Sunday night/Monday morning.
I request that everyone shed any social conditioning that might deny access to knowledge out of the fear of asking "stupid" questions.
I will be giving everyone the benefit of the doubt that they are not trolling via the assumption that all questions are earnest; to do otherwise would be immensely counterproductive to what I hope to accomplish with this. Aside from that, I believe this community to be mature enough to police itself should the need arise.
If you do think you've spotted a troll, I respectfully ask that you not make any allegations unless they are evidence based. If do you find proof that someone is deliberately feigning ignorance, effectively wasting the time and effort someone else would benefit from, please be civil with them.
I need to pack a few things right now so I can get out the door as it's already way later than I wanted to be hitting the road, but I will return Monday morning at the latest - Sunday night, if I have the energy.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Edit/update: So the festival I'm at is cashless. Wristbands have an RFID device, you can load money on them, and that's how you pay all the vendors. Alcohol is only available in individual drinks. No outside alcohol available. If you have money leftover at the end, you get a refund, minus $5 fee! They asked me if I wanted to load money onto my wristband, I told them I wasn't interested in digital money that introduced additional counterparty risk. But there is reentry. I went to the local liquor store, and got as many small bottles of fireball as I can fit in the pockets of my cargo shorts, and now I'm eating a steak at a nearby diner before going back :)
If they were cashless with (at at least the option of) a HERO/USD (or bitUSD/USD) exchange at the door, I would be all for it.
As it stands, I am boycotting their attempt to deliver convenience (and possibly reduce overheads for vendors) by virtue of not having to wait in line. Maybe the cashless part is implemented by the venue, not the promoter, but I don't rightfully know or care.
All this does, is reinforce the need to enable counterparty-risk-free cashlessness at the next festival I throw.
Plus I wasn't really feeling the vibe. I don't really get the appeal in the music burners usually play.
I'll post pics of the effigy burn if I manage to take any good ones.
