This little beauty came in the mail yesterday.
I ordered it last week. They did ask for minimal identifying information, but only enough to ensure the card was sent to the correct address. And, for $10 USD, I judged the fee to be worth the convenience it will provide. (Plus, they have to make a profit somewhere...)
I know there are versions out there or just around the corner that will preserve anonymity. If necessary, I can look into those later.
I chose the Bitpay Visa Debit Card because I don't have to tie it to a bank account, but I can use it just like a regular Visa debit card. Bitcoin funds can be loaded directly onto the card from a variety of wallets. Personally, I use Exodus. I sent enough Bitcoin to equal a $1 USD transaction to make sure everything was working properly. So far, so good...
I will be doing some re-arranging of my current hodlings so I can increase the balance enough to try paying a bill with it. There are fees involved - just like any pre-paid card. I have to make sure I have sufficient funds to cover those as well. I'll let you know how that goes when I get there. Maybe at that point, the folks around me will stop looking at me like I've grown another head when I tell them crypto is real money. One can hope...
