I am far too new to understand most of the drama surrounding berniesanders and haiejin and the intricate nuances of this platform in general. I'm not taking sides per se, as I just don't know enough history behind all of these individuals beyond my short stay here on Steemit. What I can add though, is that for someone who writes an awful lot of posts about how terribly unfair Steemit is to the minnows and newbies, and how some users, like haiejin, are taking up too much of the resource pool, nearly $300 for a 22 word post is pretty erm...excessive? I will let you draw your own conclusions there though.
I was just replying to a comment earlier that went on about how cryptocurrency is going to change the landscape of life as we know it. That I agree with. I think Steemit, BTC, DogeCoin (I can't even hahaha) and other cryptos will force the federal government to take some kind of action. They will no longer be in control of at least part of currency exchange, which I believe is why so many big wigs at the top of the stock market and banking food chains are poo-pooing the absolute inevitability of cryptocurrency being a thang. I mean, give me a break, these are the same fools who denied that there was a housing bubble, and maintained that everything was hunky f*ing dory. (Of course they were also bailed out, and many of them knew they were too big to fail, so they perhaps aren't afraid of anything anymore. Why should they be.) Anyway, I'm getting off track here. Getting back to my original point, I agree that crypto is going to revolutionize money as we know it, but this person I was replying to, more specifically decried that crypto would make the world a better place. We would all be living harmoniously. The wrong people wouldn't have the financial power anymore...and this is where we started to part ways.
(We have a currency made from a meme. WE HAVE A CURRENCY MADE FROM A MEME. What a time to be alive!)
People. Humans. Homo-Sapiens. Civilization is a little more than 6,000 years old. Prior to that we were still the same sex-loving, money-hungry people we are now, we just didn't really know how to lay it out in a proper way. We settled down, we learned how to farm, we built great civilizations. We recorded our history, we established trade and eventual currency. There were nice people and there were assholes. There were kings and there were slaves, but always many more slaves. I think the idea that we may all have an equal chance to rise up may make crypto more enticing and exciting. It's a potential illusion that eliminating the evil middle man, the Fed, the government, the banks, etc. will make things will run more smoothly and eradicate evildoings. If wealth was in the hands of your friendly neighborhood gaming nerd rather than the Goldman Sachs trust fund baby, the world would start to turn for the better. I think the clear problem with this, is that we are still humans. We have developed over thousands of years, but the basic fundamentals of human behavior haven't changed much, right? We still fight over love interests, we stab each other in the back, we pillage, we murder, we judge, we envy, we cheat, we are rarely satisfied. We are human.
Cryptocurrency may be an awesome way to get compensated for something you might otherwise not, like writing a blog post for instance, but I just don't think it is going to be the life altering answer to human kindness, or closeness. We can see this happening on Steemit for goodness sakes. For the most part it has been a beautiful, welcoming environment with those around me, but what is happening below the surface? Rather, what is happening at the very top? Whales fighting each other and deliberately attempting to trip one another up instead of coming together to continue to build what could truly be an awesome platform. Money gets in the way, as it always has and always will, no matter what form it comes in or who is the handler.
(Money is akin to the great ring. Some of the beings are more immune to it, but no one is completely. Everyone can see themselves with a certain amount of power, and they become warped by it.)
Fret not though friends. I am not throwing Steemit to the wolves, or saying that there is no hope for humanity. But I do think there are some that could be a tad more realistic about their expectations from this platform and subsequent ones to come, especially after taking a good hard look at how those on the top behave once they have reached their ultimate status. Some of them are really great, super helpful and kind. Some of them are twats. It's the same mixed bag you get in any part of civilization. Perhaps I am just a debbie downer, but I do like to be realistic. Realism brought me here in the first place. Realizing that I wasn't getting what I wanted or needed from other social media platforms, but also understanding that people are still going to be people no matter where they are.
If you made it to the end, here's a cookie, I baked some myself today, but they definitely don't look this good, so stock photo it is. Happy Almost Christmas Eve!
(Look at that Gingerbread dude staring at that Gingerbread Lady like, dang girl, I want some of that, and her just being like, go take your buttons somewhere else...)
