Episode 24 – Trust who? Trust you!
Crypto is a funny old place.
So far via CRYPTO101 and ‘crypto twitter’ I've chatted to some awesome people. I've picked up some excellent information, every day I seem to learn about something new.
However, it's far from perfect.
When you first come into the space, you are taught one thing. Trust, no one! I've been quite diligent with that rule personally. On his podcasts Aaron Paul always says how sceptical he is about projects. And quite rightly so.
There are projects now that I'm starting to reconsider. I'll be perfectly honest with this and say one of them is DENT. I don't want to say anything bad about them really. I am pretty sure they are one of the more hardworking projects in the space. However, I have lost a lot of my investment with them. Like most projects their price has fallen over 90%. This is a project I thought would change a small part of the world, it seems to be doing it. Just seemingly not quick enough.
This sounds mad. I know, I get it. It’s such a ‘millenial’ attitude to be so impatient. But if you don’t reconsider projects and evaluate your positions, are you doing things right?
Probably not?!
I don't have any other investment knowledge. I don't know anything different. It's naivety on my part to think I would be making 100% gains in weeks. But when you see guys and girls on the socials making what they claim to be decent gains it's hard to sit and feel good about your bags when you've lost so much!
This leads me to my next issue. One I have learnt very recently.
Never believe what people say or post online.
Most guys, and girls I should add, especially on Twitter, are all about 'their brand'.
Catchphrase this, lifestyle that. #blessed. ‘Buy the f*cking dip’
Really, enough already. Cut me some slack.
I believe everyone is entitled to their thoughts, opinions and life choices. If, it doesn't invoke violence or hatred. Matthew Aaron's episode with Josh Fraser may have perked up a few ears, twitched a few noses, but I felt Josh may have had fair comment on a couple of things. At what point does the decentralised and centralised governance systems collide and the laws of God take over? Who decides who is right and who is wrong? These are tough questions. Ones I believe which will never have black and white answers. But that is what makes society.
Never take what someone says as gospel. You must decide for yourself. Ask questions. Never fear rebuke. If you don’t ask you will never get an answer. Then again, even if you do ask, you may not get the answer you were after anyway.
Which leads me onto a recent incident I had on Twitter.
A guy I was following, posted a Tweet.
I asked a civilised question about said tweet.
I received an answer.
It was a little short. Slightly patronising. And it most certainly dodged the answer, to the very simple question, I so politely went out of my way to ask.
- If you want to see said conversation, hit me up on twitter. You can make your own mind up as to why I was blocked?! @DaveDustpan
Crypto is about getting involved. There should be no harm in asking questions or questioning someone's opinions. Especially if it's done in the correct manner. The ‘expert’ tag is thrown around very easily these days. Seemingly, I myself, am now a crypto blogging expert, seeing as I have been writing for 6 months now!
So why then, when I questioned his post, was I shot down. Why did he feel the need to block me?
If you make a statement to over 5000 followers, potentially real people you can ‘influence’, then at least have the balls to give some sort of respectable answer.
If I'd have said something abusive, outrageous or offensive I would have understood. But I didn't.
If you cannot take criticism or consider someone else's opinion, I think it may be time to take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror.
It also brings me to the point that you shouldn't believe in everything someone says.
If Aaron Paul says here likes an ICO because of X. That's great, but you must form your own opinion. If Matthew Aaron says he's a big fan of a project. Again, that's great, but you must form your own opinion. Even if it’s wrong, make sure you made the decision. After all, I’d like to think nobody has a gun to their head when they are buying into their next sh*tcoin!
There is a lot of smoke and mirrors. A lot of clever marketing. So PLEASE make sure you question everything and Do Your Own Research!
Don’t be a sheep!
My medium page is coming along. Having to go back and reedit my posts so far so that they are all organized and in the correct format takes time. But I will be releasing the details when it’s all polished up and ready to go.
CRYPTO101 is still trying to build out the new Steemit page. It seems to be going well so we are grateful for the support. But please don’t forget that your comments, likes, upvotes - and donating some dollar bills ya'll - are extremely helpful to keep us giving you guys content for the average consumer. As ever, please get involved at the CRYPTO101 Facebook page. I myself have received a lot of love and support from the awesome community there. If you're on twitter, give me a shout @DaveDustpan.
I tweet a lot of light-heartened rubbish, but I do share some knowledge and journey updates from time to time. Finally, if you've got the time, please take a quick trip to Patreon, please have it in your heart to become a Rarris on Mars member and help keep the community going! I myself am a Patreon. I do this because my mistakes would have been a hell of a lot worse had CRYPTO101not been there for me. Not only will you get exclusive content from Matthew Aaron and the team but hopefully it will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Thanks for reading folks and stay safe out there,
Dave x
