Hello my fellow steemitians! As promised, I will tell you about my little experience of staying away from crypto for a whole month. It was a very interesting experience I want to share with you.
Have you ever wondered how crypto land affects your day-by-day life? How much time you spent on it? How much time is wasted? How much time is actually productive? I started to ask these questions in April and I wasn’t satisfied by the answers. My crypto day usually starts as early as I get up. While cooking my breakfast and on my way to the office, I check the market and news. I start with blockfolio, coinmarketcap and my favorite telegram channels. I’ve noticed that what I find there really affects my mood. I live in Moscow time zone so when I get up Asian traders have already defined the day trend. When I see my portfolio down, read some bad news and FUD, I’m not all that positive afterwards. Does it affect you as well?
I don’t like it. We live our live only once and I don’t want all these stuff to spoil my day. I decided to try to stay away from the market for some time. I’m in crypto for the technology and progress in the first place. I am not a trader. I have a portfolio and I don’t really need to check it daily. I’ve never planned to earn a lot of money in crypto. I just enjoy all the creativity I see on the market, all these brand new ideas. I see crypto as a new emerging industry. I see it as great opportunity. I want to find a place for myself here. Maybe join one of the projects one day.
It is not easy to change your habits and it wasn’t easy to stop checking market in the morning. For a change I went travelling. I visited many great places in Czech Republic, enjoyed amazing architecture of the city of Wien, tasted wonderful Slovak cuisine. During the trip, it was much easier to stop checking my phone as there was so much stuff to do. Eastern Europe is not that much into crypto (besides Baltic countries), so nothing reminded me of bitcoin there. When I’ve returned home after 2 weeks I was already free from “crypto drug”. For another two weeks, I was ignoring the market.
Yesterday it took me around 2 hours to catch up. We’ve got used to think things are moving really fast in crypto. It is the truth and a lie at the same time. There are hundreds of projects, exchanges and idea in crypto. There are dozens of news on them every day, but how many of them are really important? If you are not a trader, you can pretty much ignore most of them. This news can make the price of a coin to go down for a couple weeks, but when the market will go up again the coin will grow again. When you understand this, a couple of bad headlines don’t spoil your mood.
Another great tip is to use your time wisely. If you have 1-2 hours for crypto during the day, use it to educate yourself. You can check the news/forums/telegram channels in 30 minutes. The rest can be invested in studying something useful. I am a software architect, a part of my job is to explain technical stuff to people with no proper background. I can assure you that you don’t need to be a software designer to understand the basis blockchain technology. It is just a matter of system analysis and your ability to divide a complex task into subtasks. So nothing really stops you from digging into the technology to understand why crypto is a thing and why it is here to stay.
