I've just discovered video game cryptocurrencies. There are three that are on my radar:
- BitCrystals (BCY) - game token for Spells of Genesis, a trading card game like Magic the Gathering
- Nexium (NXC) - game token for Beyond the Void, a space-based MOBA* (currently in pre-beta)
- GameCredits (GAME) - game token for multiple games?
I'm most intrigued with the latter two because it seems to me that GAME is multipurpose and NXC supports the type of game I'd like to play.
Price trends for these currencies have all been up (along with most other alt coins, lately). But before I invest, I'll do more research on the games, development teams, currency fundamentals, etc.
Video game cryptocurrencies are a great idea that could change the face and economies of gaming. For all the time spent playing, it certainly would be nice to be rewarded in currencies that can be traded on exchanges in the real world. It may take a couple of years, but I think video game cryptocurrencies could really take off. I look forward to watching developments in this sector and seeing what breaks out.
* MOBA means 'Multi-player Online Battle Arena'. Usually 3 vs 3 or 5 vs 5 players. (Non-cryptocurrency) examples are Vainglory, Heroes of the Storm, Dota 2, Strife.
