So, it has been my first official week contributing to Steemit, and I would like to give my first impressions of the platform.
Introduction to Cryptocurrencies
My first exposure to Bitcoin was back in 2011, at that point it was my brother who introduced me to it. He is about 12 years older than myself and was the reason I got hooked on Linux and third-party thinking. When this took off he was raving about it being the first untraceable currency, however back then there wasn't a lot of use for Bitcoin outside of making shady purchases on the deep web. Foolishly, we didn't think it would take off.
Getting into Steemit now (the good)
In my intro post, I stated how I found out about Steemit. So far, the general reaction is reasonable. This platform motivates me to create quality content and try to stand out from others. I also enjoy the community, I have become involved with a contest group called Information Finding Championship, and it gives me a lot of ideas on what to post. So, if I have a brain fart, I can refer to the weekly challenge to make a post. The system of being able to partially upvote a post is pretty cool. It is like, "I like the post, but it isn't that great or unique." So I like that.
The Bad
Things I don't really like about the platform, is that I am noticing a lot of people are using minnow boosting services to boost their post. I mean when you see a long post with 100 votes and only 30 views, something is fishy. So, seeing that going down makes me feel as though if it isn't resolved, it will just tank the value of Steem, both the hard currency and the quality of content if everyone does it to make a few bucks.
It also seems as though there are too many overly positive people on the platform that just want their comments upvoted when I read a post. Not that I am saying I wish people were trolling and throw shit at each other but being overly nice gives me a little bit of cult vibe at points.
At Last
I hope that the platform can figure out how to handle the artificial boosters in the system, maybe I am just too harsh on people because of a platform like this kind of figures itself out. You don't get rewarded for being a bootlicker. lol
I am excited to see how my first payout from last week turns out and looking forward to making more post. Also, noticed the Dsound app that was created, so I am getting some friends into Steem to post their music.
Well, that is all I have to say about Steemit for now.
Until then,
Ride on!
