This is my third blog post from the series of tech blog that I've been posting for several days. Alas this is probably won't be my last piece in discussing about IoT technology. It's been fun, to be able to brainstorm many ideas that came out of my head about IoT and automatization. Today, after conducting several "research", reading ton of article, and compiling a lot of information, I came up with this list about my predictions for the future of Internet of Thing technology.
1. We'll become much more inseparable with Artificial Intelligence
With the raising popularity of smart home hubs, thermostats, automated lighting systems and even "smart" coffee makers, all "things" will collect data on your habits and patterns of usage.
Voice-controlled devices actually record what you say to them and then store those recordings in the cloud. All of this data is collected to help facilitate the implementation and improvement of machine learning. If you don't know what machine learning is, to put is as simple as possible machine learning is a type of artificial intelligence algorithm that actually helps computers “learn” without having to be programmed by someone. These computers are programmed in a way that focuses on data that they receive. This new data can then help the machine “learn” what your preferences are and adjust itself accordingly.
More and more data that it collects, it becomes much more "smarter" and reliable to help you in a day to day problems. Such as managing complicated tasks, driving for you, or probably as simple as reminding you something.
2. More than 20 billion of devices will be exposed with the Internet
Over 5 billion connected devices were in use worldwide in 2017. But, according to Gartner, Inc, Internet of Things (IoT) devices look like they’re here to stay and become increasing in popularity. In 2015, there were approximately 4.9 million things connected to the internet. That number went from millions to billions in one year. This rate of growth will increasing exponentially.
3. IoT will spark a revolution especially business revolution
Businesses which connected to the Internet saw the real value when they re-designed their businesses models and processes for a connected world, and found new online products and services to offer. Some companies immediately embraced the Dot-Com world, many had false starts and many others took a long time to jump on, or the revolution passed them by completely. The same will be true of IoT. Businesses need to develop strategies and plans for how they can leverage IoT to transform all aspects of their businesses and capture the real value of this revolutionary technology.
4. City will become "smarter" then ever before
With more than one-half of the world’s population living cities innovative new IoT solutions, such as smart parking, connected waste, and traffic management, hold great promise for combatting the major challenges of rapid urbanization. We are unlikely to see many Jetson-like smart cities of the future appearing overnight. However, like in the past with the adoption of revolutionary technologies such as sewers, electricity, traffic lights, and the Internet, mayors will slowly implement IoT solutions to save money, shape the future and make their cities better places to live.
Because consumers won’t be the only ones using IoT devices. Cities and companies, always trying to become more efficient and save both time and money, will also start adopting “smart” technologies. Meaning that cities will be able to automate, remotely manage, and collect data through visitor kiosks, video camera surveillance systems, bike rental stations, and even taxis.
All the development of technology listed above is slowly emerging today. Internet of Things is becoming more popular than ever before, everything around us becoming "smarter" from day to day. Real example of that are Tesla that has been working tirelessly to popularize the smart electric car technology or probably Robotina, a company that's aiming on creating your electric grid system "smarter" to help you manage your energy cost. This kind of company that's aiming for the further advancement of human civilization will become bigger and bigger in the future and traditional company that's resisting with the growth of technology will be in vain.
Anyway if you want to learn more about Robotina project, consider visiting their website or watch this video!
Special Thanks to Robotinafor making this article possible! Check out their Twitter or Facebook Page to ask more about their project!
